Spider-Man (2018) Review Discussion and Spoilercast | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 338

Believe it or not, the very first non-mainline episode of Sacred Symbols back in September of 2018 was dedicated to Insomniac's smash-hit PS4-turned-PS5-and-PC game Spider-Man. We were only 10 or so episodes into the main show, Sacred+ didn't even remotely exist yet, and that episode quietly lives here on Patreon still, yes, but buried in the annals of Last Stand past. As such, and in commemoration of Spider-Man 2's imminent launch on PlayStation 5, I (Colin) thought I'd sit down with my brother Dagan -- a newbie to all things Insomniac Spider-Man -- for a trio of episodes of +. This is the first of the bunch, a deep dive into the original game that spawned some meaty DLC packs (which we'll cover in episode two) and an interstitial game that launched alongside PlayStation 5 (which we'll cover in episode three). That makes October a very webby month, which I guess makes some sense, all things considered. So take a trip to NYC with us, where we find a 20-something Peter Parker in yet another sticky situation...

Everytime i boot this up it just bores me. Im probably half through by now and its taken literal years to do that. Really wish Insomniac were free of the Marvel Curse. Rather they give us new Resistance. Though ive felt the same about Naughty Dog for years since they abandoned crash and jak, nothing they made since ive cared for. Atleast Insomniac knocked it out of the park with the new ratchet game i suppose. I do love spider-man so its weird the game just does nothing for me. I couldnt even tell you what exactly is wrong with it. I like the batman arkham games so its not like superhero games arent "my thing" Maybe it really is all the forced slow down sequences, because the games pretty decent when it lets you be spiderman doing spiderman things but it just gets so slow and tedious at times that i shut it off and play something else.

This discussion made me buy the upgrade on PS5 and boot it up again! I was like Dagan and Golden Pathed it back on the PS4 when it came out and I felt like it came and went and didn't really have any lasting memories of it, and now that I am just taking my time and playing like Colin would now and just soaking it all in, I am having a better time with it!

Doing a second spoiler cast of a game right before its sequel is perfectly fine in my opinion. I like it. Especially when you have someone (Dagan) on who hasn't played it before. I hope you'll do something similar for FF7 Remake/Intermission before Rebirth. I think you said something to that effect.
