Attention Deficit Disorder | Sacred Symbols, Episode 275

A light smoke is emitting from sunny Santa Monica, but is there cause for concern? Sony's crown jewel studio Naughty Dog has recently let some contractors go, and -- worse yet, if reporting is to be believed -- its long-awaited Factions spin-off has been shelved, with an exiting bigwig and an unknown future. When combined with SEGA's cancellation of Creative Assembly's Hyenas, which was apparently the publisher's most expensive project ever, we simply have to ask: Do games-as-a-service have the bright and airy future once widely-assumed? Or is there a significant deficit of collective attention, time, money, and inclination necessary to support the long-tail of all of these games? Maybe Jim Ryan made the wrong bet, after all. Plus: Spider-Man 2 is the perfect length, GT Sport is going offline, KOTOR's PS5 remake enters a new and even more mysterious phase, Bungie's virtue signaling backfires, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Will Assassin's Creed: Mirage satiate the old-school AC fanbase? How do we feel about the proper pronunciation of Final Fantasy VII's Cait Sith? If your girlfriend is jealous of your in-game relationships, is that a red flag? Has Colin's psychosis grown to such a degree that it rarely surprises his co-hosts anymore? What if we gave you five hours of really great football. Isn't that just the red zone channel?

It was Ryantology before and Now Comes the Time of Titokisum!

Using the Disney On Ice logo is killing me in this lol

PS Plus Deluxe is PS Plus Premimum but for countries where game streaming isn't available. So it's premium with no PS3 games.

Ealia Staroverov

Correct. It is the highest tier adding retro games and game trials over Extra, but costing less than Premium, if that were to be available in the region.

Jonathan Turner

I would be down with A.I helping with the de-bugging process during development to hopefully help with us getting games that actually work Day 1 (on PC for the most part anyway).

Bryant

Chris killed it during the AC Mirage discussion. My thoughts exactly.

No art in AI

I’m no good with social media, how do I talk to these turkeys?

Luke Silletta

I'm honestly getting tired of Naughty Dog. They have now been farting around for years making a game that they have put on ice?! Who knows if it will even come out now. What a colossal waste of time and talent. Getting Suicide Squad vibes from this.

The lawnmower saga and the girlfriend not wanting the man to interact with relationship mechanics in games is what I come here for. Great show guys.

Matthew Skora

Naughty Dog got way over their skis. All we wanted was an updated Factions multiplayer mode, but they tried turning it into some standalone live service nonsense. I’m kind of glad Factions is failing to be perfectly honest.

Raul Hernandez

That girlfriend question kinda turned into a low key Knockin Boots episode. 👍🏽

Mini games in games, I love blitzball, that was RPG soccer, and it was before the World Cup Japan/Korea 2002. They need to bring blitzball back, get all the FF characters

Pyo

man I am so not a fan of the new patreon design, it resets the video for me when I want to comment or like the vid

That lawnmower guy can officially get fucked after that second story lol. I know people like that all too well, they're completely oblivious to how annoying they can be, and more importantly they can be insulted by almost anything. It's best to get losers like that out of your life early with a little nudge like the guy in the story did.

superbadisfunny .

I think the backlash on a.i. is a bit over stated at this point. This is now preference versus Reality. And reality is AI is here to stay, reality is people will love AI generated games eventually and won't even know it. I think this is just another conversation of something new is changing something old dramatically.

Jeremy K

Red Dead Redemption PS4 does come with Undead Nightmare and the other smaller DLCs, so that increases it's value. I think, with multiplayer not included with the port, its ideal price is $40.

I agree completely. Humans learn\create the exact same way. Colin says AIs are nothing without all the human input to learn from. Point me to the author who wrote a story before they ever read\heard one. Where is the musician who has never listened to music before they started making music? I'm supposed to pretend it's different, because it's a human learning from another human instead of an AI learning from a human? The mechanism by which they learned is the same. They observed or listened to other examples of what it was they ended up creating. We won't ever agree on this. He's made that abundantly clear. I just think his defense is coming from his emotions and not from his reasoning. I should also state I'm not some person who is all excited about the AI revolution. I work in IT and my job will be taken up by AI long before creatives have to worry about it. Our media cares way more for creatives then they do for people in my line of work so there won't be hundreds of articles talking about the morality of an AI taking over my job like there will be for writers or painters. I've just come to terms with when AI is capable enough there is no way I can be as effective as it will be at what I do.

Speaking of mini-games. FF7 Rebirth was confirmed to have more mini-games than the original FF7. It was cool to see a card game get added called, "Queen's Blood." That will definitely pull the nostalgia lever for triple triad fans.

Brent

Assassins Creed Mirage is pretty good. I’m loving the focus on stealth.

Re: "true" endings being locked behind completion %s - I don't mind it necessarily, it's a nice incentive to see everything the game's got to offer. But dude, when Person 5 Royal locked me out of the ENTIRE PAID DLC because I didn't arbitrarily befriend one of the characters during the enforced TIME LIMIT. Oh man. I was mad for weeks.
