The long-awaited Project Q is officially called PlayStation Portal, and the reaction to it has been surprisingly divisive. Priced at $200 and intended purely as a remote play option for PS5, some potential players see obvious use cases while others think this entire initiative is a waste of time and money. Here on Sacred, we have three different opinions to present you with about the future of Portal, and why it might be a mightier machine than some think. Plus: Sony announces new high-end audio devices for PlayStation while gobbling up a boutique headphone company, release dates have been revealed for games like Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Persona 3, BioWare lays off 50 employees, Geoff Keighley finds himself under siege on-stage at Gamescom, and more news followed -- as always -- by listener inquiries. Has game writing hit an all-time low? Which game world (if any) would we like to visit? Will we ever escape the era of the sequel? Is Colin a secret glizzy gobbler?

Maybe do a Kickstarter style reservation for switch releases to make sure enough will be sold to make it worth while.

Can we get a “Jerry, I don’t know sometimes” in the southern voice ?

Chris was the only sane one in the room on the PlayStation Portal price.

No he wasn't its priced lower than that all of the solutions he suggested

Daniel Maynard

I'm excited about the portal and the price is fine. All of Chris's alternative suggestions cost more than the price of the portal, sacrificing screensize and comfort. It also doesn't only work through your home network but connects directly to your PS5 with PlayStation Link, which should (hopefully) make it WiiU levels of non existent latency. A couple of friends and I are picking up the portal, being a parent with young a young family means we can be on the move around the house with this. So I guess I also the perfect use case.

I have the Audeze Penrose Playstation headphones and they blow away all of Sony gaming headphones.

The biggest thing with the explorer buds is using them with PS VR2. The buds that come with the headset are not good. These provide a fantastic option for those without high quality wired VR buds already, and these have the added benefit of being wireless but with tech that is being sold as them having a signal that performs as well as a wired connection. I have no need for these, but I do view them primarily as a VR complimentary piece of hardware.

Colin patting himself on the back for his debates (or discussions) on the Xbox podcasts is the "Obama placing a medal on himself" meme to a tee. Pretty funny. I need to get around to listening to that Xbox Two episode.

'only 6 million people with that subscription why make a console just for them' only 6 million? That's potentially 6 million people that will buy the Portal, With the addition of people upgrading there subscription and the addition of potentially new subscriptions from people outside of the playstation ecosystem... I for one was disappointed not having the option to cloud stream, it really would be very easy for them to have this device stream a video from the video since it's literally doing it from the PlayStation anyway. I think Sony as actually worroied about the additional bandwidth with all these new devices using there cloud systems! I think they know it would crumble in its current state. Firm stand down on the it doesn't matter take! Love you all keep up the waterfall of fresh tasty content

Chris Adams

Does no one know or remember that meta already has a product called the portal?

#glassesgate somebody's gotta say it. Colin I need an formal apology video directed at Matty. A donation to doctors without borders and sell all you're shares of the company. As a resident audio enthusiast in the community I would like to make the correction that Audeze is pronounced Au-di -zee just like the word Odyssey with a weird spelling. I just would like to correct this early as we could potentially see a lot more from them. This is a very exciting to see this acquisition as Audeze has some really cool tech that could improve that Sony 's audio divisionncould use to improve their products. Hopefully they are able to bring stuff like audeze's head tracking technology to improve vr experiences and audeze's incredible planar drivers to a more attainable price point with Sony's mass manufacturing. They also have some of my favorite gaming headsets with the audeze Maxwell, Penrose, and the ridiculous audeze GX. Audeze is a brand much loved my the audiophile community they sport incredible sounding headphones for gaming ( if you guys get the chance to try them the LCD 2C, LCD 5, and even the CBRN are ridiculous but really cool experiencea for gaming) and I'm really excited to see their future with Sony.

Dustin - I know its not that much earlier BUT if you pre-order Granblue Fantasy Relink - you get early access on January 28th. Giving you a few days to play before Persona 3 Reload

Diego Muñoz

Guys, did the video version of this episode become available for the $1 tier yet? I can only see the audio version.

Game Sharing is a must if you have family or a friend you trust. It works the same on Xbox and PlayStation. For those that don't know: 1) Person A signs into their account on Person B's Xbox/PS5. Set as Home Xbox/Enable Offline Sharing on PS5. log out 2) Persona B signs into their account on Person A's Xbox/PS5. Set as Home Xbox/Enable Offline Sharing on PS5. Log out. 3) Login to your own account - boom done. Now you both have access to each other's digital games AND you share subscriptions like Game Pass/PS+ so only one person needs those subs.

I hope Dustin moves away from the mic a little. The the audible breathing and mouth noises kill me.

I know Colin is constantly pointing out that he is not the tech guy, so I can’t come at him too hard, but I cringe each week when discussing the Portal and other streaming devices and it seems that he still doesn’t *quite* grasp how remote streaming works (e.g. thinking that for PS+ streamed games are still somehow being graphically processed locally on the PS5 and therefore needs to “bounce” from there to the Portal). tl;dr the portal is just decoding a video/audio stream and sending back input data. There’s no game processing/3d rendering happening locally. For that reason, there’s literally no reason other than being obstinate that Sony couldn’t allow PS+ streaming titles to stream to the portal. Also I’ll make a pitch for the base-model Steam Deck as a streaming device. It decodes H265/HEVC in something stupid fast like under 1-2ms. Which means it’s pretty much the best experience possible other than the variables of your home network traffic. Also you can stream from your PS5, Xbox Cloud Streaming, and Steam local games/streaming all on the same device. Screen is admittedly not as nice though.

Hey guys. Colin when you said Alan wake was great. That is correct. Don’t let that horrible man Dustin tell you any different

Dustin come to Edinburgh and get so drunk you think your fighting greyfriars Bobby in the cemetery.

Colin, the lack of Bluetooth is not an issue of connecting wireless headphones, it’s an issue of adding latency as now the only option is Wi-Fi which so far they’ve shown their Wi-Fi connection streaming is about the laggiest of all options. Had they implemented Bluetooth it could act just like how the Wii U game pad does (while not too far from the actual PlayStation the streaming quality and latency are much better). That’s what a lack of Bluetooth talk is about

Michal Dudic

Quantum Break will not be relevant to the Remedy universe but it’s still an awesome game. Kind suggestion to keep the game in your back pocket for when you’re in the mood for a slick third person shooter. Control was - IMO - a downgrade from it in more than one ways.

Lawson72

The Wii U gamepad uses a proprietary wifi connection, not Bluetooth. The lack of Bluetooth talk is referring to the proprietary headset support, limited to PS Link devices such as the Pulse headsets. PS Link is reported to be a proprietary WiFi connection, because lossless audio on BT is not in a practical or mainstream state as of now. Everyone these days has BT audio devices, restricting audio playback to the device, aux earbuds (nobody has these anymore), and $200 pulse earbuds is a big blow for the average consumer.

I have to disagree, RE Outbreak was during the time of RE4. Outbreak is the best Resident Evil game outside of the main numbered entries. It was leagues ahead of it’s time. If they remake Outbreak File 1&2 (also with 3 unused assets) in the vein of RE4 remake gameplay, I imagine that game would sell like crazy. An Outbreak Remake would be a mp contender just like Monster Hunter.

Game sharing on PS4/PS5 is a bit annoying, it means that you have to put the other person's account as primary on your console, and your account primary on their console, if you're not in the same location. Then you always have to be online to play games that you've bought on your system.
