Sports flicks are beloved the world over for their relatable characters, uplifting stories, and remarkable endings. Disney's 1992 live-action hockey movie The Mighty Ducks is certainly no exception, though -- more than 30 years later -- there are a few bits that may not have gotten through the goalie (pardon the pun). The reality is this: The Mighty Ducks is arguably the greatest hockey movie ever, and one of the greatest children's sports films of all-time. It's also a movie that happens to be very near-and-dear to one Colin Moriarty's heart, what with his love of hockey and all. He was a third grader just beginning his youth hockey career when The Mighty Ducks hit theaters, and needless to say, it was formative. Quack. Quack. Quack!

Is this the 2nd repeat Knockback topic? I’m pretty sure this was a Patreon exclusive with Ramon when the show first started

Will Hahn

Haha it was dude! I just commented on the discord about this! LOL 😂😂

Will Hahn

This is the second repeat topic, he did a topic about the pool twice as well 😂

As a kid I always liked D2 more. I wonder how adult me would feel.

Will Hahn

Never mind, looks like he and Ramon did one about all 3 movies. So this is a more in-depth look at the first one. :)

It's not a repeat, no. The Mighty Ducks episode with Ramon (from literally 5+ years ago) was an audio-only Patreon exclusive that virtually no one listened to, and which isn't available anywhere. It was also about the trilogy, not one movie. https://www.patreon.com/posts/patreon-march-17660062

I listen to bill burr a lot and he’s a hockey fan. What is your take on the state of hockey now and days. burr seems to still enjoy it but said the elimination of the goon and their purpose in the game is a bummer

Yeah it was just a bigger movie with bigger stakes with them playing in the junior goodwill games. Plus the knuckle puck, the bash brothers, all the new players with special attributes. Fun movie. I gotta rewatch the trilogy.

You ever see the South Park parody of mighty ducks? Very funny and the ending was great

Don't think I have. I'm about 10 years behind on South Park. Been meaning to get back into it but there's just too much stuff to watch/play and not enough time. I'll check out that mighty ducks episode. Thanks for the recommendation.

One day I was standing waiting to use the pay phone. The guy who was on the phone, turns around and tips his hat. Do you know who that guy was? It was Emilio Estevez. The Mighty Ducks man himself. I was like, Emilioooo.

Is that bad he’s almost known for a movie he’s not even in, than the ones he was actually in. Awesome quote though

One of my favorite sports movies saga ever! I totally agree with Dagan about how the key to playing baseball as a youth is to not be scared of the ball. I played high end competitive baseball in my youth much like Colin had with Hockey, and it's so true; if you tell yourself "That fucking baseball is my BITCH" then you're ahead of most everybody else. Same with skateboarding... Although I was too scared of the board to progress.

I grew up in the Minneapolis suburbs and still live there, and my friends and I still call people from the suburb of Edina "cake eaters" because of this movie.

Minneapolis burbs represent! Spent a few years in Maple Grove for work not too long ago. Now back in CT. Freaking love that place and MN as a whole.

I haven’t watched this since I was a kid. It was cool to hear them talk about it and makes me want to watch it again. I just wanted to give props to Dagan. I think he has improved so much as a podcaster over the past month. I think constellations and punching up have allowed him to be more concise with his words. I know everyone has loved Dagan for a long time and he’s been doing Knockback for years. However, I think podcasting with more people really helped. I love him now!

I feel like this movie had an interesting view into the toxic AAU culture that killed the love for sports for so many over the years (including some people I was on teams with). It was honestly like 20 years ahead of it's time in that aspect.
