In another legendary Colin Was Right moment, Embracer Group has officially broadcast an SOS. The mega-publisher is in significant debt and severely overleveraged, with 17,000 mouths to feed over 131 studios making something like 250 games. But few of its products matter, it can't release enough quality fare to draw the requisite income to sustain its Ubisoft-sized headcount, and its products inevitably compete with each other, too. Embracer was always an absurd proposition, one that almost no one made a peep about while its teetering tower was built ever-higher. Let's discuss their future, one markedly different from the one they planned just a few years ago. We also take the time to get deep into this week's other news, as there are a lot of announcements emerging from various showcases. I think the other thing people need to understand with some console games coming out running at 30 FPS or a non consistent 60 FPS, is that if people want to continue buying consoles at this reasonable of a price, compromises have to be made. My PC can run Cyberpunk at well over 150 FPS on Ultra settings, but my GPU alone costs $1500. In other words, a single component of my PC costs as much as three PlayStation 5’s. The value proposition of consoles is incredible if we really think about it. I was floored that GOW: Ragnarok had an uncapped performance mode that ran well over 60 frames.

Happy to hear Chris's differing perspective on the Nick Mercs situation. I completely agree with him, and Nick was completely misinformed as to what was actually happening at the school, and it is as Chris was saying. You can read publicly available information about what was actually happening at the school, and it is totally mundane and agreeable. Teaching kids that it's okay if you feel like you are questioning whether you are straight or not is not grooming, and it's not indoctrination. Gay and trans people are normal and expected to occur in society, so kids should know about that.

Gotta disagree with Chris here on the Nickmercs situation. The whole point is that none of this is necessary to teach kids, period. Same with religion. Some would argue subscribing to the ideas of the extreme left is a type of religion. Parents are sick of their children being bombarded with "gender affirming care" and nonsense that made a school rationalize having litter boxes because one kid is delusional and thinks they're a cat. Why is it so necessary to mandate the celebration of a very small community's desire for attention and self-praise? That's what pride is, and forcing it in people's lives (especially children) is just as ignorant as forcing religion into their lives. It is not up to the schools to impart these things in kids' lives, its up to the parents. I don't know where people got this idea that anyone other than a child's parents are able to make these kinds of decisions for them, but it's gross in a very Orwellian way, and it needs to stop immediately before parents take matters into their own hands. And I can't say I would blame them if they did. I just think you're way out of your league on this topic, and likely misinformed if you think nothing is being done to kids with the amount baseless ideas warping their view of reality and the truth.

Years back I saw Brand New during their last tour and I expected them to play through their most recent record mostly (Science Fiction) but they actually ended up playing my favorite album of all time, The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me, front to back and only a few songs from the new record. What I can say is that people learn through experience and there is no way to teach perspective. We only know what we know and when assumptions are made things typically don’t work out. My 2nd grader has a 3 kids in her class with LGBT parents. It's not even a blip on her radar because we (her parents) never made it be. Square Enix’s demo for Star Ocean had bad frame drops that were fixed by release since the demo was based on an older build of the game. I think it’s possible the same thing is true for FFXVI and I imagine given that FF is a much more important franchise to SE, that the performance will be at least somewhat better by Day 1.

Really great convo around the pride topic, I thought you guys handled it well. Towards the end of the discussion Colin, you asked if being gay really is stigmatized still. I will say just as a personal observation, I work in construction, and one of the guys that I work with is gay. He's not open about it on the jobsite to anyone, never brings it up, just goes to work and does his job like the rest of us. You would not believe the heinous, hateful shit I have heard people say to him, not knowing he's gay. I have seen with my own eyes someone say to his face ver batim "I fucking hate f-slurs, they're fucking disgusting" This guy just goes to work every day and does a great job, and has to listen to people tell him he's subhuman and shouldn't exist and that they hate him daily. People talking shit to him about him, not knowing. The list of awful shit I've heard is endless, but the point being that we've certainly come a long way in treating lgbtq people like people in many areas, but the stigma is absolutely alive and well in many places.

The problem with pride has nothing to do with being gay anymore. The prob is not the the LGB but the rest. All the gay people I know (including my brother) say lgb is biological the rest is ideological. Why do we now have drag queens reading for children for example? The idea that gay sex is being taught to elementary school kids is a weird thing considering that hetero sex isn't even taught. My wife teaches elementary school in a very liberal town in a solidly blue state. The only discussions of "the gay agenda" that happens at the school is like "Some people have two dads and some have two moms. Be kind." I think a lot of "anti-LGBT" types get their info from sources that are "news" in name only. On a side note. I disagree with Colin that Pride month isn't necessary. I have several friends all over the rainbow and they get hate, in person, all the time. Progress has been made, but we still have a ways to go. Nickmerc’s comments had nothing to do with Pride. That’s YOU assuming his intentions. He recently became a father and his general take on teaching sexuality in school is he wants to be the one to talk to his children about sexuality, not the school or the school board. The podcast was fine but if it was me, I would have done more research into the specific concerns of those Aremenian parents, instead of running with potential misrepresentations of their concerns. That would explain the term "grooming" a lot better. Nobody is using that term to apply to all gay peope, or even to all trans people. But there are some specific situations where the term kinda has some applicablility. I find it strange that anyone to the right of hillary clinton can get called a nazi by the left, but if some on the right uses this term "groomer" in specific, questionable situations, it's a terrible scandal. i think the podcast hosts were flumuxed by the use of the term "groomer" because the coverage of the whole thing was so dishoest that they had no way of knowing the actual context. but maybe that's a nitpic since this crew is 20 times more fair and reasonable than many of their peers. I'm not going to delve deeply into the comment section of this episode because of the toxicity around the CoD/NM topic. But I think if a topic such as that is brought up, it should first be thoroughly understood by the hosts as to what actually happened not only with NM, but with the parents and the school. Otherwise it is hard to listen to because of the lack of knowledge by the crew. My perception could be wrong, but when it came up it was easy to predict what each member was going to say. And it was. I would personally rather it not be brought up because it just derails the show, in my opinion, and then leads to massive community infighting in the comments section. re: digital games being delisted, i personally find it just as, if not more troubling, that the store blocks new sales, but will allow existing re-downloads. it seems colin is just fine and dandy as long as you can redownload your purchases. that's ok, i guess, but to me it should be just as troubling to block new sales vs existing sales. i had to jailbreak my ps3 just so i could play afterburner climax, because it was delisted and i wasn't aware the game existed before. i've procured several delisted games in the interim that i was late to the party on. and i think that's also where dustin is coming from is: so what if you can re-download your games. the actual concern is the inability to buy the game after it's been delisted. and that's where the call for physical comes in is... i've never played soul caliber 5. and digitally now i can't. unless i buy the disc. thankfully if i ever decide to play the game, i have that option on ebay.

The whole thing with nic and leaving kids alone and stuff is weird Also the thing about kids being taught about trans and gay people is strange. It just reminds me of when some parents were mad about us learning about sex ed in school. As a parent of a 10 year daughter in school I feel like it's all just blown out of proportion. The class my daughter is in actually welcomes parents to sit in when it comes to "touchy" subjects. I've sat in on some and they were very informative and not at all as exaggerated as the TV networks make it out to be. Im pretty open minded but that's just been my experience.
