The Great Sacred/Duke Backlog Conference | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 298

Welcome to another episode of Sacred Symbols x Defining Duke! Today, we dedicate some two-and-a-half hours to a detailed chronicling of our respective backlogs. Each of the five of us -- Colin, Dustin, Chris, Matty, and Cog -- selected five games that we really, truly, and even urgently feel we need to get to, and our choices span generations, consoles, publishers, and genres. Colin thinks he's a poser because he's never played System Shock 2. Dustin's love of Japan makes Yakuza an obvious target. Cog's eager to embrace nerdy robots in Armored Core. Matty wants to add the X-adjacent Mega Man Legends to his repository. And Chris is intrigued by the promise of something new in Disco Elysium, if only he could find the time and inclination. But that's only five games. We talk about 18 more in great detail. Please enjoy.

Love you guys.

Matty, I absolutely adore Final Fantasy VIII. But I could not figure that shit out without a guide and a video tutorial for the junction system. But after I got past that I couldn't put the game down. Played it for 80 hours and collected every triple triad card. It was so worth it.

Stinkling

its an easy game to get stuck on, if you need a guide to get through it, no shame in that at all, its worth the experience either way.

Cog I LOVE YOU!!!!! Marry my sister!!!!!

Damon Pond

I loved ff8 when I was a kid. But I also loved 7 and 9 but I hated 13.

Blue

I couldn't get into Disco Elysium. The vocabulary and writing style was beyond me. Made me feel dumb honestly lol.

Paper Mario TTYD was like my next step in getting into JRPGs after Pokémon. It’s really charming and something the new ones lack is personality, there’s next to no variety in character models which is just bizarre.

Man......this is the second best value in gaming (after gamepass) lol for real though. I'm a new subscriber but long time follower and ever since subscribing last week I've been enjoying what last stand media has been putting out. I slightly regret not joining earlier but i am here now and I look forward to future podcasts. You guys are awesome and I hope this beautiful creation go on to last a life time. ❤️

People love talking shit about Bloober team yet have never played or even mention >Observer

Completely agree with Matty on Trails of Cold Steel IV. I loved the first three, but that game was a chore to get through.

Man I actually just cancelled my Gamepass sub last week. The offerings are trash lately. If something comes up on there that I want to play bad enough I'll grab it again for a month. Gamepass is a good deal for like a year but once I played through what is appealing there's nothing left. I'm also not happy about it being used to push games with ridiculous ideas and no merit into the spotlight for a lot of impressionable kids to consume. It's truly sinister.

LET'S GET IT!!

Keith Huntington

out of all these games the only ones i've played are skyrim, halo 3, silent hill 3, and red dead 3, so i guess i've committed quite a few gamer sins 😅

Moogaman, lets go!

I played Skyrim on PS3 on day one when it came out and honestly don't remember having any major issues... I guess I was either oblivious or just didn't care. Played the entire game on PS3 and throughly enjoyed my experience. Just interesting to hear people always talk about how "broken" it was on PS3, and I was there day one and never even noticed it. I guess that says something about me as a gamer back then...I was smoking A LOT of weed....

Second time Colin mentions Nick Scarpino, since Colin’s departure from kof, Never listened to them again, but I miss Nick and Kevin, never forget Kevin crying when Colin recorded the farewell episode, that broke me, if possible, I would like to see them on the show, a Colin special… 🥰

Someone tell Cog and Dustin, Chrono Trigger is on the SNES Mini. Probably the best legal modern way to play it.
