Celebrity Deaths, Dreams, Amazon, Karma | Constellation, Episode 18

It's time -- once again! -- for a brand-new episode of Constellation, our off-topic conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by Last Stand's associate producer Ben Smith and coordinator Micah Watson. Ben gets into the deep mystery surrounding dreams, and prods us about what goes on behind our eyelids when we sleep. Micah laments celebrity deaths, wonders if they're worth getting upset about at all, and inquires about which prominent passings-away affected us most. Is karma a real thing? Dagan thinks it is, and challenges us to conceive of a world where what goes around actually does come around. And finally, Colin touches base with everyone concerning Amazon, the megacorporation that's slowly-but-surely taking over America. Question is: Should we be grateful or scared?

Robin Williams is the one celebrity death that really fucks with me. I miss that man

Great topics! Kentaro Miura, Robin Williams, Chester Bennington and Tom Searle were tough ones for me. Always weird to bid farewell to people you've never (really) known. Guess that's only going to get weirder with all the parasocial going-ons nowadays.

I think being attached to celebrities is totally understandable, because even if we don't know them in real life they have definitive impacts on us especially if they are people we care about. Michael Crichton the author of of things like Jurassic Park, Westworld, Congo, etc. Died in 2008 and it's the only time a celebrity death has ever made me cry, but I was devastated. Jurassic Park was the first novel I read after clawing my way out of remedial reading in elementary school that man had a very profound impact on me.

You may have never known them, but these people have measurable impacts on us. I too was devastated when Chester died.

Great show! I am really appreciating Micah’s increased involvement in the front end of the shows. I would love to see her become a constellation cohost permanently! Also, Ben saying he can’t find any down side to Amazon clearly has never spoken to an employee! 😂

Another banger. Whenever I hear "Numb" on the radio, I tear up a little because I never got to see Chester live in person.

I started listening to podcasts in 2014 and my two favorites were Podcast Beyond with Colin and Greg and the Around the NFL Podcast. Chris Wesseling's death was the first time a public figure's passing felt like I truly lost one of my own good friends.

Colton McKinney

It felt like the world stood still for a few moments when Kobe and Robin Williams died.

Also, not to get overly dramatic, but when Colin dies it’ll leave a huge hole in my life. Been hearing your voice AT LEAST once a week for a decade now.

TotalBiscuit passing was something I took the hardest and the only celebrity loss that ever really hit me. There's a good documentary on him if anyone is interested just search YouTube or I can try to link it.

Heath Ledger, guy had some banger hits in my early adulthood. Think I was 26 when he died.

That was a rough few months with Chris Cornell abit before that. Chester put on a awesome concert, saw them twice. Once with Korn and Snoop Dogg and the second with limp bizkit, deftones and Metallica headlined. There are a couple concert Blu-ray’s out there, I know it ain’t the same but it’s something I guess

plzsendpie

Dude, LP + Limp Bizkit ...I'd use a time machine to see that live for sure

Bebo513

“Big Shirley” was a character from the classic sitcom Martin in the 90s . Don’t expect anyone here to know that though lol

If you guys ever do a religion topic, please bring Jaffe on.

Just gotta say: Micah has such pretty eyes.

Man I was blessed to see Chester and Chris Cornell perform together when I was younger. Didn't realize how special it was at the time
