Resident Evil 4 Remake Review Discussion and Spoilercast | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 283

Rewind (if you will) back to early 2005. Resident Evil 4 -- long-in-development and showing a lot of promise in preview form -- finally comes to GameCube, and it blows everyone away. Fast-forward nearly two decades, and audiences are still wild over it, whether on GCN and PS2, Wii (the best place to play the original), or even more modern consoles. And in Capcom's recent trend, RE4 has been given the full remake treatment. Thing is, no Resident Evil game is more beloved than this one, and so there's a lot of risk going and messing with a good thing. But Capcom wildly succeeded. Resident Evil 4 Remake is a triumph, and we're thrilled to spend more than two hours dissecting it.

Love this. Worth mentioning that Resolution mode targets 60 as well as performance. Resolution mode on a VRR display unlocked I think is the way to go as I don't think the drops are that noticeable for the average gamer. PS5 performance is 1944p and Resolution mode is 2160p. Use ray tracing  again if you have a VRR display

Since I don't plan on playing RE4 just yet, what's the best way to search for these types of videos once I do? I've always had trouble finding older reviews discussion videos in the past.

So awesome to have Dagan in on this spoilercast! And this is a really good game. First time I've played a Resident Evil game to completion. I found it difficult at times, but never too crazy. Some of it was just getting used to how the game felt.

Is Dagan is looking for a scarier experience I think RE7 is right up his alley, definitely the RE that inspires the most dread in my opinion.

Great review I just finished the game a few hours ago. It’s definitely a great time. Slightly disappointed by the visuals in some parts but overall it was very pretty on PS5. I will say, I had a real problem with the lack of ammo in the prison section but maybe that was by design as I had to craft all my ammo for the most part. Also, Dagan should play Outlast or Outlast 2. Also yes Resident Evil 7 in VR is the scariest game ever.

RE4 is one of the most fun and well paced games ever made. Every chapter has an iconic set piece or boss fight and I love the level and enemy variety. I can't believe Dagan didn't combine the jewels into the treasures he missed out on so much money lol

Great discussion. I LOVED this Remake. Hardcore mode as my first playthrough seriously kicked my ass, but it was satisfying. It's my GOTY at the moment, with Dead Space remake as a close 2nd.

They fleshed out Luis a lot in this game which I appreciate it. If you read the files you find in the village you find out he was born there and raised by his grandfather who would read him Don Quixote. It was pretty wholesome

Dagan’s gotta play RE7. Truly a great, horrifying game. Deserves a Knockback episode imo.

Dam the edits that has Dustin has given in this episode and the combination. Totally can hear a song made from it. Great episode.

Elden ring was the scariest game I’ve ever played. Had a sense of dread from the second I started the game til the ending credits

ToiletDrummer

don't know if Dagan has played the original SH2 but maybe he wants to give the remake a try to see if that scratches the horror itch. As long as Bloober doesn't screw up it should easily be more atmospheric than RE4 Remake. Definitely less fun yet more haunting for sure.

Oops, listened to the whole spoilercast without playing the game - great discussion!

Loved Colin bringing up BLACK, that game captivated me watching the Classic Game Room review as a kid and getting to play it for myself was a joy!

almost forgot about this!!! WOOOO

I don't like this whole narrative that old games are ugly, unplayable messes in their original state. I played the original RE4 on PS2 for the first time in 2020 and had a blast. Older games have a certain charm. The RE4 remake doesn't replace the original but supplements it, IMO.
