PlayStation VR2 Review Discussion feat. PSVR2 Without Parole | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 281

Back in 2016, Sony did the unthinkable (at the time) and created a reasonably affordable console VR headset using established hardware and retooled peripherals, appropriately called PlayStation VR. While the headset itself wasn't a game changer in terms of specs, it helped to create an entire new vertical in the gaming ecosystem. Fast forward to 2023 and Sony has released their next generation headset, PlayStation VR2, featuring vastly upgraded hardware and features. The big questions are, is it any good and does it warrant its $550 price tag? I (Dustin) brought on one of best content creators to discuss PSVR2, Bryan Paul of @WithoutParole ! So let's take a deep dive into the hardware, software, and future of the of the platform. Hit play!

Bryan reminds me so much of Colin in a lot of ways. He has found his niche and goes all the more in-depth within that space. I love that stuff as opposed to a wannabe jack of all trades. The guy knows his shit. Plus, he's super friendly, great guy. A shame VR will probably never blow up to an extent where he could be your 'Tom' or 'Hoeg' for all things PSVR.

We would love to have Bryan back on for future PSVR2 related episodes! -Dustin

Almost done with the episode. So, I can give you your flowers now as well: I think the chemistry between you guys was great and you asked good questions and led the conversation very well.

lol Dustin I completely agree regarding Village. Having played it before, I almost can't do it. Just knowing what's coming basically puts me too on edge to even try. I'm extremely envious of Bryan for holding off on the experience! All I could think when I first booted into it in VR was "man if only this were a new experience". it's such a great game, and the VR is SO well implemented

Cun

I love the optimism on display here. Almost every general online discussion I've come across regarding PSVR2 is focused on the negatives. The nitpicks about the way it looks, or doesn't look. This is the first time I've heard two happy consumers talk about the games themselves and how wonderful this experience really is. I'm glad you had Bryan on again.

Really enjoyed this episode, more PSVR 2 coverage would be awesome. Would like to see a chat between you and GamertagVR.

Amazing point at the end from Bryan that the silence on the PSVR2 front shouldn't be so concerning, given Sony's silence in general these days

Dudes… Justin, you absolutely killed it on this episode. Thank you so much for taking the reigns on this episode. Super impressed.

2023-03-29 12:17:48 Really good conversation. For several reasons, VR is never going to be for me, but I'm glad that it's a pretty good piece of tech for those who like VR. At $550, I'm sure Sony knew it wasn't going to be an overnight hit; they're playing the long game, hoping they can make it a success over the life of the PS5.

Dustin! Amazing interview and such an indepth conversation! And great job Bryan! Love Bryan and watch all of his videos and live streams and I'm also part of his Discord and his community is amazing! I really hope that Sony does not abandon PSVR2 like they did with the Vita and will continue to support it through the PS5 lifecycle and I really hope that Sony starts talking more about PSVR2 and PS5 in the coming months once this ABK/Microsoft deal has been put to rest. I am absolutely loving my PSVR2. I've got 7 titles for PSVR2 and I haven't even started some of them yet. I'm still busy with Call of the Mountain and absolutely loving that. But I find that I can only play PSVR2 in short bursts of 2 to 3 hours, before I get exhausted and need to take a rest, especially for physically active games like Call of the Mountain. There are so many more games that I want to get, but waiting on some PSVR2 sale to come out. Hoping that within the next few month we will see some PSVR2 titles become available on PS Extra. Overall great discussion. Hope you have Bryan back on again in a few months time to discuss more PSVR2.

I just got a PSVR1!

I haven't listened to the whole episode, but why do we continue to give Sony a chance with their peripherals? Vita, Move, PSVR1 all got lackluster support and few good titles. I'm kinda fed up tbh.

Its very telling that psvr2 are selling on ebay for £100 less than the retail price.
