The Fake Entrepreneurs | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 273

Creating a publisher requires connections galore, an eye for talent, and many millions of dollars ready for investment. Sadly, none of us meet those requirements. But what we do have is a podcast where we can pretend and play make believe to our hearts' content. The casts of Sacred Symbols and Defining Duke join for another episode of Sacred x Duke, this time with a mission: Craft custom publishers made out of any 10 game developers currently in existence. It's time for you to meet Saving Grace, The Cognition, Stand Down Productions, Wild!, and Brookhaven Labs, the five newest mega-publishers on the scene. Which has the most promise? Well, we'll leave that determination entirely up to you.

"Put a gun in your characters hand and call it a day" - Matty.

Quinnton from Seattle

Chris' team is great! But, Matty made interesting, bold choices.

Meatball

This was a really cool idea. Great show, lads!

Walker Simmons

Colin I also bought Gotham Knights on sale after being dissapointed by the suicide squad gameplay and it's been more enjoyable than I thought. I think you'll enjoy it since you like open world check list type games despite the unfortunate 30fps lock

gothichellokitty

excellent show guys. im thinking this style of exercise might be awesome paired with a long term version of a fantasy draft, but with more figures (i.e. revenue/games sold, etc.) over the course of a few years. keep up the great work guys!

Is anybody having an issue with the audio cutting out around 1:44:30

About 20 mins in the Long Island secret government stuff came up. Colin did you hear Eric Weinstein on JRE? He proposed that a secret Manhattan project may be happening at Stoney Brook on Long Island, was a very interesting episode!

RoughSlpr

Feel like if you looked at this draft without context you’d think Matty is tanking for next season

Levelupbrady

I absolutely love this and I hope you do more videos like this. So much fun.

Keith Huntington

this was a nice listen while i farmed rare smithing materials in dark souls 1 on ps3. time just flew by :)

OTTAPPS

This was very entertaining. You guys kept a really nice pace too. If there was a fair way to assign a value to the studios it would be fun to give everyone a set budget and have them put together a team with that restriction. Or give everyone a budget and bucket of studios and have everyone bid on the ones they want. Highest bidder gets the studio and uses their budget. Lots of ways you and tweak this idea to make it fun though with different themes

Michael Miller

I think Colin meant Bushido Blade and not Tenchu. Tenchu was an Activision/From Software joint.

Chris Raygun Arkane is not the same studio the Person that made the games that you really love immersive sim. Was the Founder Raf and he left a little but after Microsoft baught Bethesda. And he left the company the last game he worked on was Prey. And it is why death loop fell short the key guy is not there anymore. He has his own studio called wolf eye studio. Believe me I want a Prey 2 but it will never be the same because Raf is not working on it. That studio has fallen so far.

OCEL0T

Yo the intro with Colin and Matty was dope

Zack Fair

How on earth did Matty or Dustin not pick Atlus early on!!

Scott M

Am I the only one who had the podcast cutout when Chris chose SNK?

RU46N2 (REY)

Deathloop is a good game but I was just stolen ideas from Prey mooncrash dlc. Or at least the all the ides. I hope they can but the immersive sim king is Raf.

Zack Fair

The development team that makes Persona, I know Dustin eventually picked them but with the guys been massive Persona nerds, i thought they'd of picked them sooner

This episode was awesome! Colin would be easily the biggest money maker but the one I'd have close to 0 interest in playing anything except Machine Games. Matty had the most interesting picks but Cog had the publisher I'd want to play the most by a long shot. Between Insomniac, Obsidian and Ninja Theory he has a trio that can basically make extremely creative games at the highest quality. I'm shocked after Pschonaughts 2 that nobody took Double Fine. Fun episode though.

Josh Horsfield

Does anyone know if the live show at Houston was recorded?

Jerison Reidell

100% agree with Colin on the Remedy choice. I've always enjoyed their games, all the way back to the original Max Payne, but in recently years they've really blossomed and have shown they can do the work and deliver a AAA experience on a budget.

WiseG33k

Colin, you should turn this into a recurring game. Give everyone a starting budget to set up their venture (enough to buy 2-3 devs, price should be based on tier, aka A/AA/AAA). You have to come up with game concepts and have the audience determine which ones they buy (each audience member can only buy 2 games every round, to be determined via simple polls). Based on past successes or failures, have another round of acquisitions or sell, and so on. Winner is the one that tops the cumulative sale chart at the end of the year. You could even add in random events/disruptors like exclusivity and game pass deals (guaranteed profits) and mergers (split profit between two teams). Let's go!!! It would be so dope!

Jacob Hartl

How did nobody pick Lillymo?!?!

Vandelle

I love the draft format. Please do a power ranking of all Xbox and Playstation studios!

Iqan Adil

That was a great episode Gents.

Robbie Cooper

Really fantastic episode, would love to see more of these…Everyone had solid choices, but I would give the slight edge to Dustin. Just prefer the potential from those studios.
