Hey All!

Note: This week is Developer_Direct, so do consider circling back around here after the show to write in again as this will be the focal point of our show.

It's time to submit your questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas for Episode 108 of Defining Duke.

Great ways to get your write-up used: Be pithy, be topical, and be insightful. Walls-of-text, posts littered with poor grammar and punctuation, etc., are promptly (though respectfully) ignored.

As this is an Xbox podcast, be sure your submission makes sense within that realm. You have until Wednesday, 1/25 at 5 PM ET to make your submission.

Hello beautiful people! I know this is a PS5 game but since it’s also on PC, wanted your takes on the Forspoken review “backlash”. Seeing a lot of people claim this game reviewed poorly because the game reviewed poorly because the main character is a woman and/or POC. Am I missing something or is this just people trying to push a narrative that isn’t there. Curious your thoughts. Have a “Matty - air fry your tofu, thank me later” kind of day

Hey boys - so Forspoken is here, and it's empty and underwhelming and skippable. We've seen predictable tweets (including one by Matty that went viral) showcasing the cringey dialog and performance. But in response to what seems like well-deserved dunking, we're also seeing defenders in games media come out of the Twitter woodwork to proclaim, "Actually, this clip isn't bad," or even, "This is funny and good," or, "I talk like this and would say the same quippy shit in this situation!" People have their own tastes, sure, but I feel like it's intellectually dishonest and comes with a real agenda. It's one thing to say, "This is cringey, but I can deal with it or even find it endearing," but it's another thing to go full revisionist-history and suggest that this writing is good and should be enjoyed by all. Is this just further proof that one needs to latch onto - almost exclusively - reviewers and outlets with tastes you've grown to trust? I worry about ending up in an echo chamber, but it's so annoying to see game journos evangelizing sub-par games.
