As the years blow by, one of gaming's very best from the early 2000s has become a shell of themselves. Ubisoft brought us the likes of Batman Vengeance, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Beyond Good & Evil, along with plenty of other inventive IP. Throughout the 2010s, they seemingly lost their creative drive and exchanged it for an open world template that they would fit any and all of their games into. With 2023 in full swing, we now are aware of Ubisoft canning a staggering seven projects in the last six months with multiple delays in key titles like Skull & Bones as well as the Prince Of Persia Remake. They're clearly in trouble. Is there any saving them?

People kinda know about Jet Force Gemini, but I don't think the game gets the recognition it deserves for how seriously ahead of its time some of its ideas were.

You can tell Matty writes these descriptions since he’s the only one who’d first think of Batman Vengeance when it comes to Ubisoft. Excited to listen!

Ahhh this breaks my heart cause I love Ubisoft but this is so true there just slowly going down and i wish they could save them selves.. we will see down the line!

I'm one of those people that really enjoyed Immortals: Fenyx Rising, and I have a feeling one of those cancelled games was the rumored sequel to it.

I was a big Ubisoft fan back in the day, it's sad to see how far they've fallen.

I feel like the fall of Ubisoft really started with Far Cry 3. I liked it alright but it was the start. 2013/14 they tried to start new franchises but none of them really delivered (example: Watch Dogs, The Division, The Crew) i personally got enjoyment out of AC Valhalla but I felt like the story over stayed its welcome and some of the story arcs were so frustrating and there were inconsistencies in the narrative. I don't think the time I spent was worth it, honestly.

During the 2000s and early 2010s, Ubisoft was on a roll. Rainbow Six Vegas, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Prince of Persia, Advance Warfighter 1 & 2, Far Cry 2 & 3, the Splinter Cell games, the original Beyond Good & Evil, Assassin's Creed 1, 2, Brotherhood and Revelations, Heroes of Might and Magic V, Driver: San Francisco and many more were all great games. They even published some weird out-there games that no one else wanted such as Armored Core: For Answer. Hell even there lesser games where still interesting. Could you imagine today's Ubisoft making a game like EndWar? To me Ubisoft's golden age came to an end in 2014 with the double whammy of the original Watch Dogs disasters launch and Far Cry 4 just being Far Cry 3.5 with a worst story. After that Ubisoft got complacent and sloppy. For every good game post-2014 Ubisoft made, there would be three others that were ether bland as hell or outright bad. And now the decade or so of bad management is really biting them in the ass. I hope for the best for all of the workers and programmers in the company but Ubisoft completely brought this on themselves and now it seems that the best they can hope for is to be bought out to a big game company like Sony or Tencent.

It’s crazy how the industry swings and roundabouts. Just over 10 years ago Assassins Creed games were getting better with every instalment, Far Cry 3 took over the industry, Rayman was back, Child of Light, Valiant Hearts. All of this was happening as core gamers were starting to get jaded with the Activision COD formula by MW3 and EA was the evil empire that ruined BioWare and had Dead Space’s head on the block. Now look at where we are. I hope they can course correct without selling.

Are there any games that you love that you never hear get any praise or even acknowledgment? For example, Criterion made a game for PS2 called "Airblade". It was a hover-boarding game with Tony Hawk-style objectives set in a run-down future ruled by Megacorporations. It's sad that the world seems to have forgotten a game that brought me and my friends so much joy as kids.

Cog singing to my soul on the AC talk. I miss AC so much.
