Missing Kevin Butler | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 214

Is PlayStation missing an element of 'fun' that used to be present in its ecosystem? One listener wrote in with such a thought, revolving his argument around one key figure from yore: Kevin Butler. The long-lost fictional Sony executive represented a different time for PlayStation. The question is, do we want to go back? News items this week include a peculiar missive from Sony in Brazil about Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, an analysis of Sony's first quarter fiscal report, Tencent's pursuit of Ubisoft, and more. Other listener inquiries include ones on the potential of an $80 game, the value-versus-length argument, subscriptions acting as modes of curation, and Dustin's peculiar pronunciation of a northwestern American state. If only we could have done more to protect him. Check out our merch! LastStandMedia.store Follow the hosts on Twitter! Guys, if you make the group show, then dont make it weekly because it becomes forced. Max one every 2 to 4 weeks. Keeps it fresh and fun.

he garbage storefront situation is why i have the ps5 disc version, and i *only* play games with physical releases. that weeds out a great deal of trash games and shovel ware. go to best buy. look at the games. it's quick. it's a clean interface. and i always leave with a quality release be it from majors like rockstar and fromsoft, or from limited run or anapurna. i don't even acknowledge the digital storefront. no thanks.

I recently upgraded my PS+ to the Extra tier and wanted to try Demon's Souls. I searched on the store and at least from the first 3 pages, it wasn't even recommended yet Dark Souls was. It got to the point where I just had to use Google search on my computer that linked to the Demon's Souls PS5 page.

Chris saying Biden getting COVID might even make him stronger flew under the radar, but it was hilarious

Matthew Deane

Would definitely love to see a GoG style with the LSM crew.

Zack Fair

Chris I think you fail to understand that Xbox started all this locking down games from 3rd parties. If anything blame Xbox

Sony is the worst company they hate you they are anti consumer Colin is a fanboy he say horizon forbidden west is best game and Elden ring is not a 97, when last of us 1 comes out it will be his most best game ever and he only like a Sony game not any game not a Sony, sorry not good English, and because not good English I imagine to get banned but I felt to say this of the fanboy nature that increasingly pop up over time, my dog take a Tylenol for his headache, I think do a take of one as well ok goodnight

Stand down from the FF8 ridicule kind sirs. The level scaling is vastly over played and the game is never too difficult if you know the basics of the system. You can get the ultimate weapons on disc 1 if you play enough triple triad. There's also the islands closest to heaven and hell to power level to 99 if you wish to play on easy mode, there's also a spell that will give you permanent limit break.

When you talk about console sales, seems that the number of a successful console is between 100 and 160 million units, and that's been the case since at least Ps2. Has the overall number of consoles sold per gen increased or is it broadly the same people buying gen after gen?

LastStandMedia

The Xbox 360/PS3/Wii era will probably be the high-point of cumulative generational console sales. 80+ million, 80+ million, 100+ million. PS2 was 150+ million, 24+ million, 25+ million, something like that. Last generation was 120 million and 60 million.

Greg Dawson

Weird it doesn't seem to be growing all that fast. X360 gen around 60mil units more than the previous gen seems really small growth considering the potential market.

You won't get banned for mastery of the English language. Giving a poor dog a headache with rants about Sony might though ;-)
