Today, I (Colin) have brought together the entire team that made my developer's newest game: Super Perils of Baking. For the uninitiated, I co-own an indie studio called Lillymo, and we just released our fifth game, which is a remake of our very first. Making the game was interesting, fun, challenging, and fluid. It was originally supposed to be a free update, and basically spiraled completely out of control into the full-fledged $10 product you know (and hopefully love) today. As I know how interested our audience is in minutiae, I grabbed Lillymo's founder, programmer, and designer, Barry Johnson, our associate producer Ben Smith (who is also Last Stand's associate producer), and our two artists, Lachlan Pini and Henry Maxwell, and we talk extensively about what it was like to create our newest release. Where did the idea come from, and just how did it spawn into a full-fledged game? What are we most and least proud of when it comes to the final product? What lessons can we take into our future games? (Did you know Sony's rules forced us to remove a reference to Taiwan from the PS4 and PS5 iterations? It's true!) For those who like knowing how the sausage is made, well... this episode's for you. Enjoy.

Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed the game, going through NG+ with Sabrina was a ton of fun! Excited to see what comes next

Great episode! Finished my first play through of the game and really enjoyed my time with it! Will try NG+ this upcoming week (gotta try to get all the achievements!)

Enjoyed the game so much and love these peeks behind the curtain, especially from a panel of the core team 👏

Really cool hearing your thoughts and behind the scenes information on development. I am unable to pass level 24 in this game because I guess I’m bad at platformers. I been trying to find videos or tips to beat it to no avail. However, I loved Habroxia 2 and will buy the original Habroxia once the PS5 version is released. Really looking forward to your upcoming RPG as well!!!

Instead of saying "The platform holder prohibits us from saying what we need to say here", could you have gotten away with "the platform holder does not want us to refer to Taiwan as an independent country"?

What a great episode. Loved all of the different insights into the game. It really is crazy that more people haven’t done well polished love letters to one of the greatest games over made, in SMW.

While playing through this, I couldn’t help but compare it Kaze and the Wild Mask. Did anyone on the team play this game?? They seem very similar in a lot of ways. Looking forward to the next Lillymo project.

Barry M. Johnson

I played a bit of that game and its seems cool. I think Lachlan played a bit of it too. I wouldn't say it had any influence on Super Perils.

With this episode I guess we’re really… seeing how the sausage is made 😎

Great insight into the making of the game, and the biggest bombshell in this video is the Taiwan tidbit. You know, it's funny how today with the Roe V Wade issue and all the PlayStation Studios tweeting out their vanilla responses regarding human rights, how they don't seem to care their publisher won't allow you to release a game declaring Taiwan as in independent country. They don't seem to care about those rights too much. Great content as always!

Loved hearing behind the scenes talk of development. Really fun listen. I’ve got my PS5 arriving Monday and Super Perils of Baking will be my first purchase

Just a thought about the marketing of the game. Colin said they’re very fortunate to have Sacred Symbols as an avenue to promote Lillymo’s games. Don’t forget you also have MrMattyPlays and Chris Ray Gun with over a million subs between them. Influencers are the new and I would say more effective way to get the word out there. Ben will get nowhere chasing traditional media for coverage.

Any idea if this works alright on Steam Deck?

Joe August

In a recent episode of Sacred Symbols Dustin talks about how he has been playing Super Perils primarily on Steam Deck and it works great.
