Hello! As always, please welcome Last Stand's tech analyst, Tom from Moore's Law Is Dead, to our show. Tom returns to talk technology, of course, and with recent news percolating from within and outside of the PlayStation ecosystem, we actually have quite a bit to go over. We start with PlayStation VR2, which we know you all saw on the State of Play a couple of days ago, but which we speak about without such foreknowledge. We're excited about what it can be and how much it may cost. But will the games be there? We then get into PlayStation 5 Pro, which will be coming in 2023 or 2024, and its amazing capabilities, including the possibility of games running at 4K and 120 frames. But what about 8K?! For that, we need to consider another console entirely, a hypothetical one, and well... we do. What do the early tea leaves tell us about PlayStation 6? Does a fast-moving tech industry demand a quicker turn-around? Seems there's less time keeping us between the next console then you might think.

Having Tom on is so fucking good. Great episode.

S rank episode. Love the nerdy tech talk.

Brian

These episodes are fucking great

Dustin, can we get your top 3 Thrice albums? I love that band and find the answers to that question vary wildly from person to person.

The comment SS+ is lazy is stupid. It's not. You ask good questions and have an interesting discussion every time. That said, I think it would be cool if maybe more of an increased frequency, we can have these analysts on with the floor opened to us to ask some questions. Been a while.

Tom lost me when he said "get the PS6 out in 2024/2025". I don't want consoles to turn into Iphones with new ones coming out every single year. I get his point regarding Pro consoles, I still don't like mid-gen refreshes or want one but I get it.

Mark Whittington

Digital Foundry seem to have a completely different opinion on if we will get or even need pro consoles this gen. I'd love for you to have one of them on for tech talk too to get a different take on this issue.

Kevin Cooper

You dumb bastard... It's not a Schooner, it's a sailboat! ^_^

Very interesting and informative episode! personally never had much interest in VR but it seems PSVR2 is shaping up to be something truly special. Btw that comment about SS+ being lazy is the biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard. I'm only on the $1 tier at the moment and the amount of quality content I receive is an absolute steal. Keep up the great work!

Interesting discussion, never really considered the cost of the pro models getting cheaper than the base. I would like to suggest an SS+ episode with Tom explaining the terms and lingo of console tech, like what's a teraflop? Something like a 'Fundamentals of Console Tech' or 'Console Tech 101'. Would help people who are not familiar with these terms to understand Tom when he goes full nerd.

I second this. Especially because there are aspects of the PS5's GPU that are superior to the Series X (pixel throughput/filtrate) and others (TFLOPs and texture fill rate) that aren't. It'd be cool to see him break it down and propperly explain why TFLOPs aren't the be all and end all for GPU 'power'
