State of Play Wins the Day | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 205

It's good to keep your expectations low. That way, surprises could be around every corner. With the PlayStation ecosystem so vacant in recent months, it's clear that Sony and its many partners have a lot to say. It's just that we didn't think a State of Play presentation that Sony seemed to actively and repeatedly lower expectations for would be the venue. Well, consider us surprised, indeed! During a tight 30 minute showcase, we got to see 15 different games (including three from first party), spanning PS4, PS5, and PSVR2. Horizon: Call of the Mountain looks great, and -- believe it or not -- 2018's Spider-Man is PC-bound, where it looks to add to its and Miles Morales' stunning 33 million copies sold. Resident Evil 4 Remake is real (and it's glorious), Stray finally has a release date (and will be a 'free' title for PS+ Premium and Deluxe), Callisto Protocol wears its Dead Space inspiration on its sleeve (and preempts Dead Space Remake on the calendar), and Final Fantasy XVI -- due out in Summer 2023! -- looks incredible. We have a lot to gush about. There's other news this week, too, which makes this episode officially jam-packed. You can get Airsoft guns without the orange on them, though you should be careful about where you use them. Probably only on private property where everyone around knows that they're Airsoft. The orange is basically just to let people who might misinterpret people carrying around firearms to be real ones rather than toys. The really illegal thing is to color a real firearm orange, rather than to paint over the orange bits on a toy. That's more just unwise rather than universally illegal.

Would love to hear more about your experiences with the Final Fantasy Legend games on Game Boy. I loved Final Fantasy Legend 2 as a kid. One of my favorite Game Boy games. Played it mostly on my SNES with Super Gameboy, an underrated accessory.

I understand you guys are not into dragon age series but inquisitionis is a game liked by many fans and it sits at 85 on metacritic. 2014 wasn't a strong year but people to this day love the game as do I. I just wouldn't discredit it too much.

I don't understand all the hate Anthem gets. Connection issues at the start aside, I loved the game. The flying was fun, the combat was great, and all the suits/mechs felt quite different. It just needed more content was all and less janky matchmaking.

I was happy with the State of Play but I keep hoping to see something that would excite my 8 year old daughter. I want to share my PS-fanboyism with her but Nintendo has its clutches in her and PlayStation hardly does anything to win over the youngest audience. They have it in them though, she absolutely LOVED Astro so I hope to see more of that from Asobi. Thanks for your hard work guys! Love and waffles from Belgium!

Hey gents, I'm watching this episode late in the week, so I don't know if someone commented already, but they did just add voices, as well as items, to Nickelodeon All-Stars via a free update for what it's worth. A handful of original voice actors reprise their roles. Can't wait to hear Hugh Neutron pummel me into a pulp.
