Ghostwire Tokyo Review Discussion and Spoilercast | Sacred Symbols+ Episode 183

Tango Gameworks' newest offering -- console exclusive to PlayStation 5 for the next year -- is its strangest game yet. While still in full embrace of its horror roots (this is Shinji Mikami's team, after all), Tango has opted to get away from scripted and linear play reminiscent of its Evil Within franchise in lieu of something quite different: An open world. What results is a truly different experience, wildly underrated, and woefully-ignored by much of the press. Ghostwire: Tokyo is a unique, enchanting, and deeper-than-meets-the-eye first-person action game with a collectathon twist, and we're pleased to gush about it here on Sacred+. Beware of spoilers! They're everywhere (except the very beginning).

A sequel with more spells and abilities and faster paced combat where you could dash in and out and combo together different elements or duel wield with a better melee system would be awesome but I doubt it will ever get one. I'm excited for what Tango does next although I'm sad Xbox owns them now since Ghostwire was an enjoyable platinum. I hope the Evil Within games get a remaster or something eventually. Much like Ghostwire they are flawed gems but I love them since they are the spiritual successors to Resident Evil 4 and are very scary and intense with amazing creature design and creative gross visuals. Thanks for the 🔥🔥🔥 spoilercast boys I'm glad you didn't skip this game!

Before I watch this, for me the open world was unnecessary. The gameplay was so good though, if there is ever a 2nd game please be linear

I don't want to spoil it considering I have a PS5 on the way. I'm interested to know if Chris or Dustin played on PC. I've heard mouse felt a lot better from reviewers who thought this game should have been third person. Perhaps they made it out to be a bigger issue than it is.

I think Tango is really under appreciated. The Evil Within 1 and 2 were two of my favorite games last gen. If you haven’t played them they’re amazing. I personally like them more then the new RE games as I like the upgrade system and the monsters are fucken terrifying. The Evil Within 2 is more like TLOU 2 or the new Tomb Raiders where you have smaller open areas to explore with 1 or 2 safe houses to gather yourself when you get overwhelmed. Running out of ammo while being chased by some horrific creatures screaming bloody murder while you look for the closest safe house and just barely slamming the door before it can reach in and grab you still scars me. Unfortunately audiences have almost totally ignored these really special games.

You sold me Colin. I have two types of games I love. One is a great story and gameplay. The Last of Us 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. The second is something I can play while listening to all the podcasts I love. Diablo 3 was amazing for that. Everytime I play D3 it brings back memories of old podcast. The good old days with Greg, Ryan and yourself. Very excited to play Ghostwire and I'm in luck it just went on sale today. Thanks for the great content.

I really enjoyed my time with Ghostwire and I’m keeping everything crossed for a sequel but it appears that chances are slim. Awesome spoilercast and thank you for giving this game the coverage it deserves.

I got into this game for a few reasons - Recommendation during the Sacred Symbols episode, the fact that both Colin and Chris mentioned it's not scary (I'm a big pussy and don't play/watch anything horror-Esq), and also because I live in Tokyo and it felt like a "must" once previous two facts were on my radar. I absolutely love everything about this game. It clicked with me so much that I even bought several books about yokai and Japanese folklore. It opened a whole new world and I'm seeing Tokyo in a new perspective during my walks... I started to notice them green phone booths everywhere, and a grocery trip to Family Mart suddenly feels very different. This game became my cult, and I want to study everything about it... from the lore to concept arts and everything. Great podcast game as well while going after platinum. Thanks for the shoutout because I would easily miss it otherwise.

I love this game. From its graphics and setting, to its themes and gameplay, I also found the ending very poignant and thoughtful and as a fan of mythology the Yokai were right up my alley. I think that despite its open world trappings this is a unique game and the type of thing that should be rewarded in the industry.
