Turning Agnostic | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 199

Where is Kratos? Belief that we'd see God of War: Ragnarok by now has left us dismayed, particularly in light of a rather odd video from Santa Monica Studio that gives us little information about a game originally slated to launch in 2021. But without a release date (outside of year) and no confirmation it's even incoming by year's end (except for from a random Tweet from a dev), PlayStation fans are left wondering if their faith in getting something timely from Santa Monica Studio was ill-founded. Other news this week includes the return of Amy Hennig to the Star Wars universe, endless rumors about a new Uncharted game and The Last of Us' remake, the arrival of the NFL on PSVR, the increasing perils of in-game advertising, and more. We wrap up with listener questions galore, as usual, including inquiries on what Netflix's fall in fortune means for gaming subscription services, circumventing old-school punishment with save states, the bad design around level caps, and so much more. Would we do it with an alien? We talk about that, too. Enjoy! Tickets to SACRED SYMBOLS 200 LIVE: Tinyurl.com/Sacred200 Follow the hosts on Twitter! Watching Dustin try to keep it together after Chris’ 9/11 joke was hilarious.

Remaking the last of us is a concerningly insane idea from Sony. Are they going to remove it from the ps plus collection or are they going to try to sell a game for $70 dollars which is already available to everyone who has a ps5 & psplus? The only way I can see this working is if they bring TLOU graphics up to parity with the sequel and bundle them together like they did with Uncharted Legacy of thieves.

When Chris's room went red, I thought that was it for him,

Hey Colin I wanted to say that a game kinda figured out the level cap problem, in xenoblade chronicles definitive edition you can change your characters level on the fly and make a fight easier or harder

Daniel B

I have a correction: Colin incorrectly attributed "tighten up the graphics on level 3" as a Grandma's Boy reference. This is actually a reference to the cringe-worthy Westwood College commercial from (I believe) the early 2000s. Thanks

The more I honestly think about it, the more I kinda realize it's no different than Demon's Souls Remake.

Simmo

Demon souls was languishing on the PS3 though, it's probably a savvy business move but the last thing I want naughty dog working on

I had to come here to say, I strongly dislike weekly releases on netflix

Carlos Moreno

Started watching The Expanse cause you're always mentioning it Colin, and I gotta say, what an awesome fucking show!

as far as anime games is concerned- There's a new One Piece game coming out that actually looks decent. One Piece Odyssey. Actually has the same composer as Dragon's Quest 11! Which gives me a bit of hope

Jeff

I finished it earlier this year. Great world building and characters, but I didn't like where the story went the last few seasons. Still recommend it.

You guys are always firing great takes on this show. I 100% agree with Chris about the potential of ads hitting our games. Get out of my face with that. I'd rather games NEVER go on sale to avoid this from happening.

Cyberconnect2... They are an interesting studio. To me, it always seems like they're just taking a ton of contracts from all kinds of different studios just so that they can afford to make the games they really want to make... The Little Tail Bronx series. Tail Concerto, Solatorobo, Fuga: Melodies of Steel, and some random phone game... Their games are never truly terrible, but they're just kind of workmanlike and uninspired, except for that one series, which seems to be where they pour all their inspiration. They aren't great games either, but they are far more creative than their normal output.

Happy is not always good I can tell you from experience there is a point where happy can be inappropriate or possibly even become manic it's better to be neutral or content and emote properly to the world around you or else you might end up in an institution like I did
