The Virtual Horizon | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 184

This week's episode of Sacred Symbols is full of acronym soup. Let's start with the biggest news: PSVR2. While Sony revealed PlayStation VR's successor last year, we finally have new information, though -- frustratingly -- we still lack a release date or price. Along with fresh PSVR2 details comes a new game, too, something from the first party. It's called Horizon: Call of the Mountain, and we're eager to talk about it. Then: NFTs. Japanese publishers Square Enix and Konami are the latest to signal their intentions to enter the goofy world of the non-fungible token. What does it all mean for we gamers? We discuss. And how about TLoU? That stands for The Last of Us, of course, and compelling new rumors indicate a ground-up PS5 remake of the classic PS3 game is near. Plus: New details surrounding God of War: Ragnarok's release date, sales data for both Ghost of Tsushima and Days Gone, a delayed reveal for Final Fantasy XVI, Tencent's further expansion, and more, all capping off with listener inquiries. Are we underestimating Tom Holland's value to Sony? What's the deal with silent protagonists? Which 2022 release has the potential to be most disappointing? Is it okay to use your hand instead of a tissue when blowing your nose? Follow the hosts on Twitter! “Can you projectile snot?” - Chris Raygun I almost cancelled my Patreon subscription you slovenly ape 😂😂😂

Really great to hear your thoughts on the Ken Levine article Colin. They really tried to frame him as a bad manager especially when they quoted him as saying as he works best with a deadline and that the game doesn’t have a deadline currently. They tried to make it seem like he has nothing to show for all the time invested into the game.

I know I’m dumb but I would 100% purchase an autographed script as an NFT. Please consider

I am so very happy to hear that Dustin has bought a quest 2. After giving my kids a quest 2 for Christmas I bought a second one so that I can be in vr with them which is wildly fun. Chris mentioned wanting to play any spider-man type game. Quest 2 has a game called “resist” it’s kind of Spider-Man with guns and it’s fun. Dustin if you liked pistol whip also try SUPERHOT it’s so damn good. And Colin should Dustin ever let you use his quest 2 you guys need to try out a game called Pixel Ripped 1995 it is WILDLY imaginative and dripping with nostalgia. It’s pure magic to all of us that grew up playing games back in the 80s and 90s. Colin should you like Pixel Ripped 1995, now that you are in the game production space, I would absolutely LOVE if you ever teamed up with the devs of Pixel Ripped to make some more nostalgic magic. Damn it is SO GOOD.

I got to the part where you talk about Jaffe scooping Jeff Ross and John Garvin, and all I could think of is when you two were going to collaborate again. You guys are dynamite together.

Welcome back boys. Happy New Year!

Brandon Soto

If PSVR 2 isn’t backwards compatible, dead on arrival.

Zack Fair

That's awesome that you're doing merch in house now! I was wanting the Sacred symbols hoodies but I live in the UK and would've been roughly £100 with shipping, not that I'm poor by any means but £100 is a lot for a hoodie. Now you say it will be cheaper, I'm excited to see the merch and hopefully order that hoodie!!

Jake Z

Check out Polybius. Really cool, psychedelic VR arcade game

Liam Mcnulty

Hey Colin, I know you don't want to stream games on Twitch, have you ever thought about doing a hot tub stream? Something to think about.

Liam Mcnulty

He should give us a discount after what they did to our tea. I demand reparations.

Miky Sh

I'm so excited for another year of patronage 🍻 Happy new year LSM!

Liam Mcnulty

Anyone else think TLOU is being remade for two reasons? The first, and most obvious is to coincide with the series. The second reason I've seen no one mention, is to have a more appealing looking version of TLOU to bring to PC, then followed by Part II. I'm just waiting for the inevitable PS5 The Last of Us Part II - Directors Cut lol. New feature is to probably have the games story rearranged in chronological order. I'm sure Druckmann said he kept changing his mind about how he wanted to arrange the timeline.

I have to say, Colin’s bass is looking real hot in this video

Collin, do you think there is a near future in which Sony will produce a successor to the PSVita? #normalizesnottinginyourhands

Michael Miller

My wife and I just had our first child about a month ago and it would be pretty awesome if I could buy him a Sacred Symbols onesie from this upcoming online shop.😉

Joseph La Russa

Just a heads up, the shop is still active for those Patrons listening with early access. Maybe it'll be gone by the time it's public.

Pumped for the new episode!

Jorge Sosa

When it comes to a silent protagonist, I was perturbed when Kojima decided to make Snake damn near one in Phantom Pain. Last game in the series and that's how it ended. Sorry I have a love hate relationship with that game. Lol.

flytroop

Will the GT7 video be with Raycevick 👀?

I think a lot of the reason why PSVR2 may not be natively backwards-compatible is due to the way they're developed. For example, if game X was built to use the PlayStation Camera and the Move controllers and/or DualShock 4, it's not going to translate over to a camera-less set up with different inputs in the new controllers. That being said, I suspect PlayStation will reach out to developers and ask them to update their titles to work with the new unit. I can't imagine it'd be too difficult as there are a tonne of titles which operate across PSVR, Oculus and so on.

Shaun Sannerude

I still can't understand why Sony are investing so heavily in VR when surely they would sell more units if they did a new handheld & the software which goes with it. VR is not going to sell 10's of millions of units but a properly backed handheld using the best PlayStation IP's would. And call it the PSP2 as one of the biggest mistakes of the Vita was its name

Shaun Sannerude

I agree, though I think having a VR unit like the Quest 2, that might not be as premium, it will appeal to the mass market much more as it is a standalone unit that can be played straight out of the box. I don't see how the PSVR2 can compete but I hope I'm proved wrong

Nygile Oliver

I ABSOLUTELY need to know where Dustin got that sick ass Akira shirt, that thing is a beauty Good show, guys, and welcome back!

superbadisfunny .

Your not crazy Colin. Just because someone is popular doesn't necessarily equal good casting. I like Tom Holland but it sucks that he might be in a bad video game adapted movie. Sony is doing it for money of course but how many video game movies has that really helped?

That Betty White talk had my crying with laughter

Artisan Bonez

Hey Colin, quick question.. is something up with the Patreon only Chanel on Apples podcast app? I’ve only been able to listen to the non Patreon version this week. It’s showing your last update for the show was Jan. 1st.. is it just me?! What’s going on?!?! Thanks 😊

LastStandMedia

Hey Edward, this is likely a caching issue. Try deleting your RSS link and reapplying it. DM if you have further issues!

Artisan Bonez

Looks like my payment was declined, all resolved now. Now I have plenty of content to catch up on. Cheers!

Dave Carsley

Colin, don't you think that the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection and PC port would be one of the "three projects" that Naughty Dog would be referring to? As far as I know, they're handling that internally.

Dave Carsley

Agreed. I'm looking forward to the Uncharted collection on PC, but I hope that's not included in their "three projects". I would really love to see something totally new from Naughty Dog. The Last time they were allowed to create a new IP, we got one of the best video games ever made (TLoU)!!
