We love music, and we don't focus on it enough here on KnockBack. We're endeavoring to change that, starting now. Music is tied up so intimately with nostalgia that it barely merits further explanation. Yet, for all of us, songs and time, songs and people, songs and a moment or an event, these are the connections we simply cannot escape. Here are 10 songs we love that also remind us of happiness or pain from times gone. Indeed, they may represent the only tangible connection we have to some of the topics we discuss.

Everybody wants to rule the world is one of the catchiest songs ever.

As someone in Wisconsin, almost no one says pop. Also I never heard gyro referred as a sandwich before Colin.

I’d like to think that anyone who ever owned a 360 knows of Head Automatica because of “The Razor”. Such a neat idea to include songs on a console. Coheed rocks. Surprised you’re not more into them Col.

Dakota Brown

Thank you for reminding me of Head Automatic. Beating Heart Baby is a very nostalgic song for me. The other song by them you recommend is great too. Looking forward to more music related Knockback episodes!

Dakota Brown

I remember those songs included on the 360. That’s how I found Funeral For A Friend!

So looking forward to more music talks!!! Great episode :D

Colin knows Coheed and Cambria?! Amazing. But it breaks my heart you haven’t listened to more of their stuff. I beg of you to listen to In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3. The whole album is incredible. The Crowing and the light and the glass are classics, along with the title track of the same name. Coheed is imo the best band of all time.

man this episode drudges up some memories both good and not so good. the phases of music i and im sure others have gone through are like soundtracks of previous lives almost. thanks you guys <3 ps i dont hear the term shoegaze much anymore. cool to hear it from you two. also check out tamaryn pure x and tycho if/when you can :)

gothichellokitty

maybe an episode on different media mediums' theme songs? take care guys!

Will Hahn

Really great episode, guys. I’m glad Dagan picked Dreams as one of his songs. That’s a great one. An essential for me is Eleanor Rigby. Hearing that for the first time made me think differently about music. Love that track.

i realize now that it sounded like i called tycho shoegaze but theyre just a neat instrumental band. shoegaze is dope for sure. whirr, nothing, the sundays, etc etc so good

Oh MAN! I missed the thread. One of my favorite topics is hearing people who love bands first few albums and then fall off when their sound inevitably changes. Some artists will stay constant through our lives, but thats such a rate feat to accomplish. Can’t wait to listen. Thanks as always, Brothers M! Maybe someday consider a topic of artists that debuted for you with a bang but fizzled out on subsequent releases. Cheers!

I'm late to post, but I think it'd be cool if you guys tackled an entire music album as you would a movie. For example, go into the history behind a record like The Doors' original record or any others from your lives that have had a great effect on you. Keep on rocking in the free world, Doo Doo da Doo Doo, Doo doo

This was a great episode. I must admit that I'm not the most musical person so there's lots of famous bands and artists I have never listened to, so I have discovered some great songs through this episode which will be going on my playlist.

Towards the end of this excellent episode: "I feel like the way we treat tv shows and movies, we should be treating albums like that" Yes, absolutely, 100%. The ideas and concepts, timing, and song selections still lay the groundwork for really interesting conversations.a I genuinely believe music is a through-line for almost all creativity, and I feel like it's often underappreciated. Even written prose has poetry -- beats, flow, and phrases -- which change how an essay or article lands. Maybe music really is "the universal language." .

Hi Dagan. Love you but you can't move to another place in the country and bring your local lingo. You moved to them and you should respect their traditions and the way things are. Think of it like this, if you moved to France would you be upset with folks if they expected you to speak French? That being said, she was likely just being pedantic and knew 100% what you mean. 😀 Maybe there's a narrative from her point of view of customers calling up ordering things that aren't on the menu 😂.
