BioWare Breakdown - Matty x Colin | Defining Duke Ultimate Episode 46

On a recent episode of Sacred Symbols, Colin made his distaste of BioWare and specifically Dragon Age clear. In an effort to tattletale, our Defining Duke thread was loaded with claims that I, Matty, must set the record straight. What I thought would be far more interesting is to bring Colin onto an episode here to discuss everything about the fallen RPG king. The disenchantment with the studio runs not only through consumers but seemingly the industry at large as BioWare has failed to both attract and retain talent. It's easy to complain about them, but what do you do with a team that has effectively come full circle with Dragon Age 4 hanging in limbo? Matty and Colin team up to sift through the pieces before them and answer that very question.

Hey really good conversation so far I hope you guys get Colin on more on certain shows to pick his brain. I know he is not a Xbox guy but I think this generation is going to be much more even and it would be nice to get some perspective and takes from Colin on the Xbox side of things he is respected in the industry.

This awesome! I love Colin's comment in regards to games being too long. 100% agree.

Interesting. I'm also of the mind that Origins sucks, and I actually much prefer Inquisition. It just scratched a certain itch for me at the time. Very satisfying game to play. However, I played Origins after Inquisition, and it just is so obvious it hasn't aged well at all.

I really enjoyed this episode. I like seeing Colin and Matty together. Two people who have differing but interesting viewpoints on most subjects and you guys work very well together. Hope to see more of you two on episodes like this in the future!

Dragon Age: Inquisition seemed like it got swept up in a lot of industry trends at the time. Skyrim was toast of the town when it comes to western RPGs and it seemed to seep into Dragon Age 3. Giant empty maps, grindy quests, boring radiant quests. Witcher 3 coming out several months later just destroyed it with it's wonderfully personalized side quests and richly developed world and characters.

What did you play it on ? I played origins on PC about a year ago and found it to be a wonderful RPG with tight party mechanics and compelling characters. The main story is pretty weak, save the world crap. Pretty just a vessel to explore some great characters and personal conflicts
