PlayStation Makes Smart Delivery Shine | Defining Duke Episode 36

In a lighter news week, we shift our attention to PlayStation who was making the most noise. Thanks to next-gen upgrade backlash surrounding Horizon Forbidden West, the pitchforks were pulled out and raised high by fans of the platform. With that, Matty & Cog dip into PlayStation's incidental marketing of Smart Delivery and how the service is being pushed without Xbox doing much of anything. Scoping out the lay of the land, it appears that a $10 upgrade could be questionable depending on how long last generation titles hang around. In other headlines, Alan Wake is back! Formerly an Xbox exclusive, fans beyond that ecosystem can finally experience its wacky and zany nature this fall. What does this mean for the future of the series? We discuss! Perhaps more discussed than any of this is the situation over at Tripwire where CEO John Gibson was removed after comments made about a new bill passed in Texas. After revealing his thoughts on the situation, John is out, and with that, we have an important topic to mull over. I’m glad Sony is offering a path to upgrade, it’s obviously the correct move, but I think them charging for it is just simply wrong. It should just be free. It almost feels like a punishment for buying it on PS4 in that regard. I’m glad they made a public statement about it at least, it seems that their PR is moving in the correct direction.

When did we all become such cheap people, we have a government that taxes the complete shit out of us for god knows what but people get shitty about 70 bucks? How entitled are we? Oh I hear people cry that they don’t have a ps5, there are 10 million of them in the wild for Christ’s sake. Being a part of the video game community these last few years is exhausting, I’m supposing almost as exhausting as this cross that you people are carrying around on your back

If being a part of the gaming community is so exhausting then I feel perfectly fine being entitled and cheap about faceless corporations charging every last cent they can.

Come on guys, Ace Attorney is much better than Danganronpa. I love Danganronpa but trying to pretend that the class trial mini games make it better? Hangman's gambit says otherwise.

I will just say how to you claim to be for small government but than you except them to inforce your religious beliefs 6 weeks is not a devolved human being yet and its completely unreasonable im a true belive in small government and asking them to inforce a law based on Christian values not reality that's just wrong

You guys are hitting your stride. Cogs enthusiasm matches perfectly with Mattys more grounded nature. Matty play fucking control goddamnit

I'm perfectly fine with the 3/5 setup in regards to opening and closing questions. You guys have always been real good at getting the audience involved and we love that so don't lose it. I agree the more topical comments and write ins add more to the discussion but please don't leave out the off the wall write ins from time to time. Love the food debates that have been had on this show since it's beginning!

Hey Matty and lord C in the place to be … in light of the love of fighting games I was wondering if you have come across the #mvc2 movement… this game is a classic and massive influence to Arch system works and especially DBZ .. just wondering https://www.polygon.com/22648751/marvel-vs-capcom-2-classic-quest-retro-gaming-capcom-fighting-game-community

I personally love the 5 questions and 5 at the end, it’s all about that viewer engagement. However, I understand if you feel the need to cut down to 3 and 5, not like I’m going to stop supporting my boys!

This is an amazing addition to the Last Stand offerings. I’ve listened on and off to the Duke since it’s been added to the roster yet after these last 3 episodes I find myself coming back for more consistently. The show is really great and serves its purpose for a multi partisan gamer who loves all of console gaming and the unique sub cultures that exist within. Long time fan of the Last Stand group and glad to see it grow in such a great way. Keep up the incredible work.

I still think smart delivery kinda sucks. The save file simplicity is perfect, I give you that. What isn't perfect is that smart delivery takes options away from the players and is very strict about it. If a game gets a series X patch or version, the Xbox will literally not let you play the Xbox one version ever again. Even if it's already installed and in quick resume! It forces you to install the new version to your ssd What's far worse is that games that get a 60 fps patch, and not an actual series X version, still require you to install to the ssd unlike ps5 which let's you play those games off an HDD Especially when ssd space is already tight as fuck, it's really stupid that they take the option of playing Xbox one versions games away from you. Many games have multi-player that you might not play often so you don't want it taking up space on your ssd but still want it available to you. That's one reason you might want the inferior version installed. Also, what if you just want to compare? Nope. Ps5 let's you do this, smart delivery does not. Even tho you technically own the Xbox one version, you will never be able to play that version on series X thanks to smart delivery Obviously some people won't care, but I find it annoying as shit and can't be alone

When you were wondering about why they're charging the $10 at 47:00 in the video... It's not because it's difficult to do, but instead because of the price difference between PS4 and PS5 games. The PS4 version of Horizon was $60, while the PS5 version was $70. They don't want to make it so people run out and buy the PS4 version then get a free upgrade to avoid paying the $10 difference.
