Microsoft Just Upped the Competition With Xbox Series S

Due to some unexpected leaks, Microsoft was forced to show its hand with the long-rumored Xbox Series S, release dates for both of its new consoles, and price points, too. At just $299, Microsoft presents compelling competition to PlayStation 5. How (and when) will Sony respond? Interesting. I wonder if this weeks SS+ will talk about the xbox news?

The competition this gen is crazy... Xbox with the subscription model and the EA play/game pass. Nvidias insanely powerful 3000 series. So exited to see what sonys got in store. They could pull some crazy shit with ps now if they want and start at 399$.

Big move by Xbox. Affordable and faster processing power than PS5. Basically says if your still on a 1080p tv or dont care for 4K, but want all advantages of next gen, here is a game pass (with EA Access) option for $299. Even gives an option for a PS5 owner on the fence to drop an extra $300 to have access to both systems.

Joe B

I would figure they would even if just to focus on where PS5 equivalent news is

Monterey Jack

Nice job on the video, finally some news!

Tyler

Nice video. It’ll definitely cost $500 (with the disc drive). The digital version I can see being lined up with the Series S at $300. Now, Sony, I have the money to get either one right now. Soooo, let me preorder it! lol

JD

I love competition!

Brandon Soto

Ngl, I like what Microsoft is doing. Competition is always good and they’ve done a good job pushing Game Pass / Xcloud and snagging EA Access as well. Their knock will always be exclusive games, which Sony always has had.

Brandon Soto

Sony’s gonna go through a whole ‘nother month of no PS5 info. I’m already prepared for it at this point.

Joshua Brown

That would be a surprise seeing as the only difference with the PS5 Digital is the disc drive. I can’t see the delta being $200.

Nailed it. $399 for digital edition. $499 for standard edition. Book it!

Brandon Soto

Was gonna say the same thing. Huge win for PlayStation fans with Xbox friends (like me.)

RD_21

I am feeling a 350$ digital edition now. Makes people really consider switching up to digital and you can take the loss knowing people need to purchase games through you.

The 299$ is way less powerful than the PS5. 499 and 549 is my vote and I'm okay with it.

I just wish this generation was pushed back 1-2 years in a different universe, I don't mean delayed, I mean I wish the technology progressed 2 more years and we had the release then. I just don't feel like this gen was really over. This just feels like an artificial generation.

It’s not way less powerful the specs are impressive for all

It’s Sony we’re talking about. They haven’t said much of anything since they announced EVERYTHING they had in the pipeline, back in 2016! LOL!

I really think this will confirm $399/$499 USD price points for the Digital Only and Disc versions respectably. Sony would be willing to take a loss on the Digital Only version if it means that you can only buy games through their storefront, And honestly, I am perfectly fine with that. Looking at probably $499/$599 CDN.

Kam Wallis

We live in COVID times now, and they know the general public has an insanely short attention span. They know we'll all be clamoring for news, but dropping nes 1-2 months before release will ensure the [roduct is still on the minds of consumers once the busy holiday season begins. This fall will be ruthless for tech.

Guns vs Kittens

I would shit myself if they started at 399. Its impossible, they would bankrupt themselves

Ben

This was a very good video!

Romeo

The PS5s GPU has double the power of the Series S.

Romeo

An Xbox Series X could cost 300 dollars and I still cant see any use for it. I already have a PC and pay like 5 dollars for gamepass. The top Microsoft 1st party videogame in gamepass is an ok game at best imo. Series S, X, gamepass and the monthly fee program are great for people on a budget, but Sony still has the strongest videogame lineup and quality control, not the mention the exclusives that are yet to be announced in the upcoming years.

It is way less powerful. Not even in GPU but also memory bandwidth and ssd speeds.

MelBigBossD

The series S is a joke does no one pay attention to gaming news? It’s like Xbox is secretly trying to destroy themselves from within. It’s like Sony has full court advantage this gen they don’t have to cow toe to Xbox at all. The only real competition is to the PC platform and not by much. the PC space is more for gamers who can afford the upgrade whereas the appeal to the masses is console for its ease of plug and play. Just my opinion

Kam Wallis

It makes sense, since it's not just the cost of the drive. It's guaranteeing that every piece of software you buy is from their digital store, increasing their cut.

David P

It's honestly not really for us who have a PC. I'm not sure I'd buy it at $300, but I'd like to eventually own a series S for the catalogue of 360 and original xbox games, and maybe the occasional game I don't want to have to keep on my PC (flight sim is fun but MASSIVE)

KingKeiffer

Holy shit. His predictions were spot-fucking-on for pricing!!
