Up until the Xbox event, I thought PlayStation had a lot to be worried about. However, after seeing the state of Halo Infinite, I'm not so sure. Halo is Microsoft's flagship franchise, and Infinite has had an abundance of dev time. For it to be anything but amazing at this stage is hugely concerning. This suggests serious mismanagement of Xbox's most important first party studio, which is not a good indicator for their next gen library.

If games are the ultimate determinant, then Sony doesn't seem to have anything to worry about.

Can you imagine if ps release a game pass competitor. Its dangerous for xbox to put all their eggs in one basket.

Is it fair if I say that I don't believe Playstation, Xbox, or Nintendo need to be worried about one another? All 3 seem to be healthy. All 3 seem to be doing a lot of good things right now.

Never rest on your laurels. Sony needs to keep the momentum going and never let up. People pissed about Avengers Spider-Man character exclusive to PS consoles, well that's a very well done business move and a selling point for PS consoles.

Xbox have not really given many on 'the fence' a reason to switch this autumn. The Xbox event was more like a game pass event and I'm not sure they have explained how Xbox Series X is essential. I've definitely got the new gen vibes from Sony - from the games shown that utilize the SSD, to a whole new controller. Games like Halo Infinite seem current gen and I think that this will hamper series X sales initially.

Michael Miller

That’s what I’ve been saying. All Sony has to literally do is make PS Now a little better and put PS1 - PS5 games on it.

I don't like the idea of Game Pass. It cheapens the work that the industry has put together for 40+ years. Sure for a consumer it is a great value, but as a creator it seems to lessen the value of a free market. Let's say Patreon changed to one universal subscription. Instead of recieving the deserved 10,000+ patrons you get $50 a month as a creator. "We didnt sell as much as you so were gonna ruin all of it." This is how I view game pass. I can't support it. People that do are ruining the very thing they love.

Gamepass is a solution to Xbox's problem of not having great exclusives...... it is a collection of mediocre games boosted by some good 3rd party games. Next generation is about new games, new tech and new experiences... and while PS5 will have backwards compatibility with PS4, it is obviously not the focus.... excellent new games and exclusives for PS customers are. Xbox's two showcases were embarrassments, Halo is now an internet wide joke and the rest of the show was CGI teasers which will not be playable games for years........ It's obvious to me that Xbox's best days are well behind it and it has nothing much to offer the industry except a loss-leader model which is not viable long term and doesn't bring anything different to the table at all. Sony will utterly crush them into dust this gen... I expect Xbox to stop making hardware. Also, Xbox isn't dealing with a weakened Sony anymore, they are worth over 100 Billion in market cap now and have over 30 Billion in cash and equivalents, they have many options and strategies they can now use.... that would not have been possible before and they still won.

lol Infinite undiscovery . a man after my own heart

I prefer Playstation’s exclusives over low quality Xbox’s Titles. As a SinglePlayer I bought my Xbox just for Gears of War and sold it afterwards. Xbox was really disappointing this generation.

If Halo Infinite is going to be a platform for the next 10 years, does that mean Microsoft is tied to the Xbox One until 2030? Yikes.

Craig Mcguire

Highly doubtful, Destiny dropped support of the 360 and PS3 eventually with the Rise of Iron expansion, eventually people will just migrate over meaning support will inevitably fizzle out. 2 maybe 3 years at best.

Craig Mcguire

I think the only thing Playstation should be worried about is gamepass/xcloud and Xboxs insitence and pushing multiplayer GAAS style games. This is where Sony is lagging and/or is underserving.

I can hear the Sly Cooper music in the background, love it Matty!

Brandon Soto

No. Everyone will fall for the Gamepass & xCloud hype for a while, and then will realize they don’t have good games or exclusives like usual. The jig’s been up with Xbox, especially if Horizon 2 is a holiday title next year.

BlindRiot

As a multi platform guy I’ve gotta say, so far Microsoft’s getting my preorder. Good episode Mattty.

I'm not sure it's really an apples-to-apples comparison. That said, I think there's plenty of valid reasons to be concerned about the Game Pass model.

LastStandMedia

We'll find out soon enough! I think the sales ratio will be similar, if not slightly more slanted towards Microsoft, to this generation. It's, what, 4:1 now? I think it'll be 3:1 next-gen.

Angel Delagracia

Hi Colin, I am curious what happen to TLOU2 reviwe you had up on patreon?

LastStandMedia

Hey! Episodes 50 and 52 of Sacred Symbols+ are our review and spoilercast discussions. They haven't gone anywhere...

Jeff Frizz

Not even close! Outside of Gamepass, Xbox offers nothing compelling. Plus even Phil Psencer said their is zero reasons to upgrade until 2022-2023 when dedicated Series X games come out.
