The Powerpuff Girls might seem like an unassuming piece of animation... yet it's anything but. Nestled within the soul of Cartoon Network's hit show is a surprising amount of depth, an amalgamation of influences ranging from anime to gaming to old superhero TV shows. The result is one of the most charming cartoons of the last 30 years. The adventures of Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles -- three five year old girls, mind you -- are equal parts hilarious and clever, with a cast of memorable villains and side characters that round out the entire product. In the late '90s and early aughts, The Powerpuff Girls were everywhere. For the next few hours, allow them to barrage your ears like they barrage HIM. You'll be glad you did. (Topic begins 1:10:23.)

Sugar, spice and everything nice.

This will take me right up to my department's virtual happy hour. Good stuff.

One of the TRUE great shows! Buttercup may not be the hero we deserve, but she's the hero we need. <3

Mojo Jojo. That is all.

Dagan is a goddamn light in the darkness. That positive point of view about his dog was just uplifting. Minor things like that are what we need right now. Keep it up guys!

WHAT?! DUDE IVE SEEN EVERY EPISODE NEVER DREAMED OF A KNOCKBACK ON IT!

Jakeytar

Wait there was a Shining episode? I remember The Thing & Rosemary’s Baby episodes but I don’t remember the boys talking about the Shining!

Never in a million years would I have ever imagined Colin talking about this

Colin “I have to play a lot of games” Moriarty lol

It’s only Eric

While you were talking about random toys based on movie that made no sense for kids - I thought instantly of the Toxic Avenger. My mom rented the movie for me...and was not amused.

Just started listening, but a quick correction: while the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake explicitly depicted Freddy as a child molester, the original series just stated that he was a child murder, it may have been implied, but never confirmed. Not that it makes him a better person by any means. Regardless, both ANOES and Friday the 13th are two of my favorite horror series, and am excited for both of you to get to them!

Juan Paolini

Working Man Colin putting his fellow canine on the Limelight! Just kidding, I know it’s a Mega Man reference instead of a Rush the band one. I was so excited when I heard there was a new canine member of the CLS family! So happy for you, dude!

Yikes hour and 10 minutes for naming names. I’d actually prefer to listen to a podcast of the two just bsing

Douglas Morreale

The past month or so of these where they dive in on one specific show have been Hard Passes. Least I've been getting SS and SS + a few days early!

Kevin Sullivan

Did anyone else receive just a 47 minute file in their podcast feed?

The Powerpuff Girls is one of those shows when I was a kid that every boy watched but was afraid to admit it. Dumb. But I remember talking about watching it a few years ago with some buddies and we talked about how great the villains were. Same with Sailor Moon lol

Jordan Falduto

Without even listening: Dagan = Blossom Colin = Buttercup Chris = Bubbles Powerpuff saves the day!!!

GameSimp

Wait you guys did the shining???

Blast from the past!

Im a huge Rodney Dangerfield fan to. He was so damn funny but when you learn that he actually thought all those terrible things about himself its actually quite sad. Heres a great bio if you need something to watch. https://youtu.be/Y-AAVy0EBNY

Dagan has this incredible ability to make topics I don’t give a shit about make so freaking interesting. It’s always a pleasure to listen to Dagans inside knowledge of the animation scene.

TV shows like Breaking bad or Curb or Entourage ........ really any show, do a season at a time. It's much better for the show, you can really deep dive into it that way

NeO JD

How dare you

I’ve never seen Ghostbusters. Don’t have any interest to. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Dagan’s “toot toot” 😂 Bubbles for life. ❤️ Love The PPG. Probably gonna do a full series rewatch someday along with Dexter’s Lab.

I missed out on many cartoons and tv shows of this era and beyond. I was running around the streets, distracted in the darker temptations of a young adult. I will say, listening to you both speak about it, has me interested to introduce it to my young niece and newphew and watch it with them. Great pod gentlemen.

LastStandMedia

Then do that! We gave you a timestamp. I don't know what else people want us to do, but we know a vast majority of people enjoy the chatter before the topic.

LastStandMedia

We'll definitely do this for some of the shows we love most, no doubt. But we have such a catalog of shit to get through that it's unclear when we're gonna get to some of this stuff.

Craig Birchmeier

Just throwing out my feedback that the current run of openings is the best by far. So much more interesting to hear short discussions on a variety of topics versus the previous game type style topics (looking at you dice rolling/coin flip intros). Don't care about Powerpuff Girls in the slightest but love hearing Dagan's animator insight on these topics!

FitzIsCoy

I'm late but I just heard this one. Tremendous episode! It really is a shame that we feel embarrassed by our nerdy things as we go through our teenage years. And yet, I am still in conflict about this. It is weird to me that people from the greatest generation or baby boomer generation grew out of things while it seems the 80s/90s gen x and millenial generations are keeping their childhood interests for a very, very long time. Of course, for you guys, studying/enjoying these things is a part of your profession so the stigma, even if self-imposed, should not exist at all!

Tara strong works her ass off. She’s awesome.
