Remembering 9/11 With Ret. FDNY Lt. Moriarty (Colin's Dad)

Absolutely fantastic interview and for Dave lending you the studio. It’s heartening - the rise of a young crop of ethical and insightful journalists. I was raised on King, Brinkley & Snyder and quite frankly, took them for granted and assumed they or others would always be there to perform that incredibly important function in the world. And just when it looked like the era of genuine investigative journalism and long-format interviews had passed and the world was poorer for it, here come you & Tim Pool & Dave, reminding us of how good journalism can be. Much respect for your dad and thanks for his years at FDNY. He may have served with my wife’s uncle Marty who worked out of L114 in Brooklyn. I don’t know much about Marty’s firefighting days. He didn’t talk much about it and he has since passed. What your dad says rings true. FDNY folks that I’ve met were no-nonsense folks who put their lives at risk for others. Marty lost part of his face to molten metal in the 70’s. When he got out of the hospital, they pinned a Bennett medal to his chest and he went back to work because as your dad says - you can’t feed kids on disability. A few decades later, a chainsaw kicked back as he was clearing a building and it ended his career. Your dad and his brothers at FDNY are a different breed of cat and the world is a better place because of them. Thanks to him for his service.

Thank you for your kind words, Robert. I just texted my dad to ask if he knew a Marty at L114. I'll let you know! Thank you for your support.
