“Heh.” I let out a laugh as I drew my phase pistol and pulled the trigger. The man who had just acted all high and mighty just now no longer had a head. I chuckled as I asked: “I’m sorry, can you repeat the question? Hello? Oh? You took a nap…. I guess that is what happens when you get old. Now then.”

I scanned the crowd, but all I saw were degenerates. Not something I really want to bring back. I thought for a moment before turning around and heading back to the slave pits. But before I took more than three steps, I stopped and quickly dodged to my right.

A red beam of light slammed into the ground, leaving a large molten hole bigger than my body. “Oh? You dodged.”

I turned to see a young woman around twenty years of age floating in the air above me. She had metal plates covering her private areas and two eyes that seemed to glow with red light.

“A replicator….” I frowned slightly. I thought it was just a myth, but I guess humanoid versions of these robots actually did exist, and more importantly, they could even speak english.

“Is that what you call us?” The figure asked as she landed on the ground. She did not step toward me but stood there, rotating her arms. “Well… I guess that is a good enough name for now. But let me ask you. That weapon… Where did you get it?”

“Hmm, this?” I raised my hand and fired a shot. I did not purposely aim for the humanoid robot but mostly returned the favor. I watched as she stood there without flinching as the blue beam passed by her.

“Yes, that.” No response at all to the fact that I just shot at her. But at the same time, I do not want to push my luck either.

“It’s a weapon I developed myself. Sorry, but not selling the blueprints.” I replied with a smile. “Are you going to try to kill me? Because I do think if we both fought here, it would not be good for either of us.”

“Yes, what you say is true. I just gained this body, so I do not wish to fight the unknown. Unlike your race, who keeps sending archaic bombs at our portal.” The humanoid robot replied.

“I see. Well… My guess is you are a first version. .0001 or whatever you want to call it.” I asked in a mocking tone. But it seemed she did not understand this.

“I am the first of my build. And am what is considered an incomplete product. I will be leaving now. I did not come to kill you humans, as that is not my job. I am only here to get to understand you all better.” The humanoid robot replied as she started floating back into the air.

“Good luck with that. But let me ask you this.” I called out to her. I still had one piece of information I wanted to know.

“Go ahead. I will answer one thing for showing me that you humans are not all a lower race.” The humanoid robot replied. Although I kind of want to smack her for her statement.

“Are you the cause of the sudden rise in temperatures?” All I needed was a nod of the head, and I could confirm everything I had been suspecting from the start.

“Mmm… a few of our scavengers were destroyed, so to stop this, we decided to make it so you lower beings could not do any more damage and hinder our path. The heat is only the start. How long it will last, I do not know, but I am sure you will welcome it once the cold sets in. I have now answered you. I will take my leave.” I could only watch as she shot up into the air and disappeared.

I sat there looking at the fresh hole in the ceiling and wondered just what she felt so proud about. Telling me so much is no different than saying since you can’t do anything to me anyway, it doesn’t matter what I tell you since you will die no matter what.

But at least now, I was sure that I was not seeing things. And it seemed that something different was definitely happening since enough bots had been killed for them to make a change in their plans.

I sighed and went back to the slave pits. I stood here looking at the people who were here and hoped none of them was too bad. “I will allow anyone who wishes to leave this place to leave with me. You will not need to fight. You will get food and water. A chance to bathe and a room to sleep in. But…. Those who dare to cause trouble, no matter how small, will die. You are to live like normal people and not try to cause harm to your neighbor. I am not offering you a place to stay just to commit crimes. I am offering you a place to stay to begin a normal life once more. You will live in a community and work as a community to make a new home for ourselves until the day we can chase those robot bastards from our planet!”

I can only hope my words mean something to these people.
