Is it me or has the vibe of the last two rounds felt like a regular season game??? Like hou felt like the felt like the finals whereas por and tor... Warriors in 6 tho

Anonymous

Hey Alch. Do u think the series is over if we lose game 2? Plus u can’t give enough credit to Toronto fans. They were loud and crazy all game.

athleticalchemy

No it aint over till its over. I still think if we force Kawhi to try and take over he may go down.

Anonymous

I'm a little worried that Iggy still got hobbled even after the 9 day rest. I'm fully expecting the Warriors to unleash the Steph Draymond pick and roll in game 2. Saw none of it this game which was mind boggling because it's their strongest play. Marc Gasol is completely selling out on every pick and roll and coming up on Steph to double and if Steph just flicks it to Draymond the court is wide open to make a play. Also, they should definitely start Looney

athleticalchemy

right I pointed that out in the breakdown.. Steph needs to understand Marc HAS to commit. He is not showing or stunting

Anonymous

A perfect scenario for KD to claim King title and GS to keep KD to continue the dynasty.

Matt Hanna

Tough game to watch, the early turn overs (3 possessions in a row) that were turn overs. We cant let them have back to back to back turns to score. I dont think Kawhi (maybe like iggy) will be 100% this series which is something we have to take advantage of. I think steph is going to need to play 40 mins every game and we need either team scoring or a third scorer. I disagree with the boogie take, yea he had a few good possessions but he was so bad on defense its tough to keep him out there.

Anonymous

recalling my random rookie commenting last night and how they (at times) aligned with your pro level analysis. ..felt good=p . siakam with his career high playoff game. circus shots by non-circus players. i really liked mccaw at one time. i was talking mad shit on him after that 3 (his first points in the playoffs). dude just went about trying to get more minutes and $ the wrong way. never got either, but found himself in the finals again. i hope the raptors fans dont know who he is. it must feel a little weird for the warriors to begin finals on the road for first time ever, and to lose first game. but drake dun fucked up wearing dells jersey

athleticalchemy

We blew an opportunity to tax Kawhi. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying playing Boogie big minutes or church time minutes. I just think he can give 12 or so

Anonymous

i thought they would play kawhi straight up. they doubled him a bit too much

Chris Styner

My only problem with the whistle was that we seemed to only get the calls when we where down 12, but when it was within 10 the refs where no shows on our side of the court. It was all wasted energy, considering we did not deserve this win as you rightly pointed out.

Anonymous

Mccaw the traitor left us because he so called wasn't playing much only to go play less somewhere else for basically the same money. We GOTTA beat these guys especially for that reason, because he's there and Nurse has the audacity to play him.

Anonymous

I don't know why Kerr didn't start Bogut on Gasol just to see how they'd play with that matchup. Putting Bell out there was just asking for trouble. Klay's shot selection has to get better and we need more bench production.

Anonymous

At the very least start Looney

Strong Foru

I waited for your analysis. I didn't want to hear any of that BS from ESPN or the NBA channel. Side note: Siakom reminds me of Thurgood Stubbs from the PJ's.

Anonymous

I was ok with the Warriors losing this game. Had hoped they'd win, but expected them not to. This a storybook moment for Toronto, first time in the finals, their heart rates are still up after the ECF, the fans are jacked up and excited, they have a chance to make history... in others words--they needed to blow their wad. Now that they're in the resolution stage, the Warriors can come back and work their experience and skills on them. The fact that they were able to come within single baskets, at times take the lead, shows they have the ability to take the top position. Also, the bench did a good job, but Curry and Thompson were the only players to score double digits. (Green did too, but I'm not counting him since 6 of his points were from FTs.) So, with this out of the way, the Warriors can come back and do what they do best, play like Champions.

Anonymous

Thing is, like you said Alc Kawhi isn't 100% he's out of character and when he's doubled he doesn't try to beat you he just passes it up and rests. I think you put klay on him one on one and just pretend to help from time to time to force him to make tough but contested decisions. He really got away with a subpar game.

Anonymous

Like just speed his decision making up and don't foul of course. When he runs into bodies in the paint with nowhere to go you keep one guy on him and everyone else get back to their man.

athleticalchemy

exactly! he is very deliberate when he wants to go to work it will be obvious when to send help late

Anonymous

Alch, like you said, Steph needs to be more patient and make the slip/bounce pass on those traps. Klay needs to big boy Lowry/Vanvleet more in the post and make the extra pass when they inevitably send the double team. Starting Boogie or Bogut against Gasol would be a great idea. Boogie can probably take Gasol all the way to the basket. Watching the game live, I with my GS bias definitely saw Tor getting the favorable whistle, which was to be expected for the NBA's first ever international finals + an entire country essentially watching the game rooting for 1 team but some of those calls were str8 up outrageous. Hopefully the W's can bounce back in game 2 and avoid a 0-2 start. Great vid as usual. Keep it up!

Do you think the Warriors not switching as much has something to do with Looney and Draymond declining on their perimeter defense? I’ve noticed Looney hasn’t been able to stay in front of players as well, and Draymond has VERY quietly lost a step when he’s been switched to someone on the perimeter. I think that’s partially why they’ve been playing defense conventionally on trapping against HOU, POR, and TOR. You

I’m wondering who besides Iguodala can be that mystery 3rd scorer for the Dubs. I-like a lot of viewers-did NOT think the Dubs were better w/o Durant; it was mainly playing against a Portland team without their third option center who broke his leg. If the Dubs are having issues with the length of Toronto and Iggy is hobbled-who steps up? Also-what kind of spacing adjustments will help them defend the length of Toronto-especially being that Toronto’s length scores well and they are taller than the Dubs at those positions? I personally would like to see Bogut and DeMarcus on Gasol more whenever Gasol is in the game. Great breakdown again!

Not the same money - he got paid a LOT less than the $2.5 mil GSW was offering, he got Quinn Cook money and even that for only half a season. If he isn't kicking himself now, when he'd likely be starting for GSW on Saturday, he must have had some serious reason to get out of here.

Anonymous

We made a lot of mistakes, especially defensively. We weren't really tested except for the Houston series. As Alch said, Kerr needs to trust Mc Kinnie. Yes he's raw and up and down with his play but he's fit and is likely to hit his 3's compared to Iggy. I think father time is catching up with Iggy...

Anonymous

"But when his balls are spinning like that you know he's not in rhythm." Pause...

Anonymous

As a raptors fan, obviously I was happy with the win yesterday. And with Iguadola potentially not playing game 2 or being hobbled, there's a good chance the Raptors can go up 2-0. But at the same time guys, if Kevin durant comes back at even 75%, I think you guys got the series in the bag. Kawhi clearly did not look right yesterday, and I have a bad feeling it's only going to get worse as the series goes on. So I think a 75% Kevin durant will be able to match his production on the offensive end and also give you guys another person who can bother Siakam. So I kinda hope he doesn't come back for our sake lol. Either way, I'm glad to see my favourite team analyzed by my favourite analyst and hope for a competitive series (And when I say competitive series, I'm not trying to imply that we will beat you. My original prediction was for the Warriors to win in 6 games)

Anonymous

It's frustrating as hell watching you break down all this shit in your pre-series breakdown video and then seeing Kerr do the exact opposite and get creamed for it.

athleticalchemy

😂 that’s thing with the “pause” game and basketball. You talk hoop enough, you gonna end up saying some wild sounded shit. I bet you were at half mass when Patty hit that dagger 😀

Anonymous

after watching game 1 i have to say this feels like a full 7 game series, im not really any more concerned than i was before though, i knew the Raptors have the squad to get it done. This felt very much like the first 2 games in houston this year, just kind of hanging around within 10ish all game making a run to cut it close before ultimately losing. Still confident in this core, didnt play well, Raptors shot 50 percent and still cut it to 4 in the 4th.

Anonymous

This is a frustrating game because GS played TERRIBLE. Toronto played like great, it’ll probably be the best offensive output for them. We didn’t see their normal 3-4 minute drought of not scoring. Toronto’s defense was stellar as expected. With all that being said, GS still stuck around close enough to keep within striking distance. There was no fire or momentum and it was really a wasted game that was up for the taking. Iggys health will be a question mark, idk how much impact he can have. What was encouraging was that the bench played poised and kept it close. I think GS needs to keep the game plan simple and not over think anything. Play Kawhi straight up, and run him through screens on defense. You’re right that Steph can’t switch. He has to accept the challenge. I don’t think his defense is bad when he knows he has to provide on the defensive end. Effort and focus can clean up much of the issues. I expect them to split going back to Oracle and take control of the series

athleticalchemy

Steph should be just fine. He has held his own on island with far superior guards. All there talent is really in the front court.

Anonymous

I'm not hoping KD doesn't come back. Of course I want him to come back. But at the same time, while he still isn't, this is really the perfect storm for Steph to shine. He's already overcome so many things and already shut up so many doubters about so many things. But winning the Finals MVP, he HAS to have that in his resume. I know he could care less, because winning the chip is what matters most. Although if you look at it that way, since winning the chip matters the most, then why not just take over, go up a notch, eliminate their bigs (he did play well yesterday, and he's been ballin' since KD went down), get that Finals MVP, then it means they're champs again. Make them play their game, they're the champs. They don't have to yield to TOR and play their game.

athleticalchemy

Every team sets out to play their game. But how dynamic can you be? How many different ways can you win? Kd coming back will actually help both goals. Obviously better chance to win the Chip. Got to win to even be considered. They will also most likely abandon trapping Steph with KD in there. Opening things up for him.

Jansen E

there was a very VERY clear home whistle. And people will point to free throw count and show how many the Warriors got. It was the timing of the calls that was the most egregious. Anytime the Warriors got close, or began to gain any sort of momentum, the refs were right there to either completely kill it with a whistle, or completely hand it back to Toronto by looking the other way on anything they did. How many times did Danny Green/Ibaka/Siakam destroy someone under the rim on a loose ball? I count 5 times between the 3 of them. Iguodala. McKinnie, and Steph all got crushed on loose balls and the refs were like "eh, thats just rough playoff ball!", and then on the other side of the court, Steph would breathe on a player attempting to drive, and he'd somehow pick up 2 fouls on a single call

TGonz510

Those Toronto rims have some pretty strange bounces to them. The raptors know how those things react, lots and lots of backspin on their shots. Our guys seemed not prepared for how those shots were reacting to the rims.

Russ

AA- Excellent take for Steph to be more patient passing out of the trap, or dump out of it early when he sees it coming. Dumping early is easier for him, he doesn't have Kawhi's hands and strength but get rid of it without the "mid trap over the top hook pass", the entire NBA has been watching that pass for 5 years now, Gasol is a shock blocker and treats that pass like a shot. Also I agree with the Iggy injury assessment, I hope we are both wrong but he looks worse than Kawhi, otherwise I would have loved to see Iggy D up 1v1 on Kawhi. And with how crazy the Toronto fans and country are into this, you can be damn sure the ref's will give them the whistle, especially at home.

Anonymous

Our second unit was okay, Leonard was clearly dealing with some limit, Draymond will get better and although i'm pretty sure that Trump is not making America Great Again, I am pretty sure our matchup and strategy on both ends for Gasol Made Gasol Great Again.....hopefully that will change as we have multiple better matchups for Gasol. Play better, play smarter get the split.

"Patty Fuckin' Mayonnaise " - said everyone who watched two-pump chump McCaw drain a three pointer with the shot clock at zero.

Anonymous

Alchemy, I know I'm way late with these questions, but I was so bummed after game 1 I couldn't even watch your Patreon.

Anonymous

Question 1: What do you think our starting rotation be on Sunday night?

Anonymous

Question 2: Why did Kerr start Bell? The Raptors are a team with in your face height and length (Gasol and Siakam and Kawhi). Starting Bell was *literally* the opposite of what makes sense. So, Why did Kerr start Bell?

Anonymous

Question 3: Do you think Demarcus is effective playing so far from the rim? He's a grind it out post player since college. From the way I see it, the Warriors need to counter the Raptor's length with guys like Cousins, but how on earth can he get grab rebounds, put backs, etc when Kerr puts him 15 feet from the rim?

Anonymous

Like you said, we didn't take advantage of Kawhi playing on a hobbled leg. Bad transition mistakes led to so many open looks. I think it speaks volume about how good the Warriors are that we were down only 9 after all these mistakes. I want KD back for guarding Siakam but our offense and defense is still well capable of destroying the Raptors with proper execution. I really hope FVV gets annihilated by hard screens, dude commits so many off ball fouls.

Russ

Zaza I think he started Bell partly because Gasol plays high PandR and his man will be guarding Kawhi after the first switch. Kerr likes Looney to come in with the 2nd unit so Bell was our best bet to bother Kawhi and maybe he could run Gasol off the floor. We know that didn't work Thurs. but maybe that went into the Bell choice. If we could only put another brain into Bell's body..

Anonymous

Loving that this is available on a podcast platform. Fire bro. Keep doing what you do

Anonymous

KD is still out so Alchemy said it would be McKinnie in Bells spot.

Anonymous

I think the biggest adjustment GSW has to make is not about scheme or game plan. We gotta lock in defensively. I know what this team looks like when it's playing its best defense. That wasn't it in G1. The rotations were not solid. Probably got lazy bc of the POR series. Gotta take it back up to that level we all know this team has.

Anonymous

Am I the only one who thinks Steph is getting constantly fouled in game 1 and 2, especially freddy? Yes i get it... u gotta play physical on him. But there is a difference between playing a good physical defense and throwing forearms around the neck
