Hey all - it's time! The first v0.1.0 alpha release of Carnal Voyages is now up for the public, with both WebGL and Windows versions available at the new itch.io page! This release covers the 'Introduction Sequence' of the game, where the player will be introduced to the setting, establish their character, and experience some of the game systems awaiting them. It currently concludes at the end of the introduction, there is not yet a full gameplay 'loop' implemented.

A large amount of work has gone into this over the past year, but still I feel required to post all the usual 'alpha release' caveats: GUI and mechanics are still likely to be adjusted, some features displayed in the intro are not fully fleshed out, some major planned game features are not yet in the game at all. Additionally, testing beyond myself and my personal system has been extremely limited. All bug reports and comments would be greatly appreciated. Still, I'm hopeful that you'll all enjoy a crash-free experience at the least, and get a taste of what to expect from later game updates.

So, when can we expect later game updates? I am currently setting the approximate date for the first Patreon release of the game, and the resumption of normal Patreon service, for the first week of October. Why a month and a half out? Two reasons mainly - the amount of game work still required, and to give time to revamp the Patreon and allow folks to adapt to new tier settings.

To cover the first, while I underwent this long period of no releases so that I could get the mechanics foundation of the game complete before switching to more of a focus on content, there are a number of systems I was not able to get to (mostly because they do not come up during the Intro sequence). These include:

  • Additional map screens
  • Watch Station shop systems for crew requisitions and ship upgrades
  • Crew and ship management
  • The 'heat' system for when you'll be forced to temporarily flee hostile systems

And of course, we'll be needing actual content, from which we're starting at almost zero. I'm not saying to expect all of this to be in by the next release, but there will certainly be more done in a month and a half than in a few weeks. As for the other reason, I will be adjusting the tier prices upwards for Carnal Voyages content, although all existing Carnal Coup-based rewards will be staying at their current levels. There's a number of reasons for this - costs of producing the games, an established record of actually keeping to releases (and actually finishing a game), and so on. I will be overhauling the Patreon page sometime in September, but here is what the tiers will look like once October hits, new items in bold:

Free:

  • One Carnal Voyages release a month, delayed from the release to Patrons.

$1 - Citizen:

  • Access to the final Patreon release of Carnal Coup.

$2 - Infiltrator:

  • Access to the cheat code for Carnal Coup.
  • Expanded artwork previews (particularly NSFW ones which cannot be posted publicly).

$5 - Liberator:

  • Access to the Stories from Watch Station archive.
  • Two Carnal Voyages releases a month, one month earlier than the free release.
  • The Carnal Voyages cheat code.
  • Polls on content priority and other matters.

$10 - Overseer:

  • The Carnal Coup HD Art Pack.
  • The Carnal Voyages HD Art Pack.

Game Functions:

  • An early game 'slice' has been implemented displaying crew management, combat, conversation and other primary features of Carnal Voyages! Note that everything is still in a very early version and not all features are added or complete.
  • Content is currently implemented up to the end of the 'Introduction' phase, concluding at the exit of the Figura system.

Scene Content:

  • Numerous scenes implemented to guide the player through game setup and some major features.
  • Optional sex scene with M/F, F or M partner options.

Art Content:

  • Portrait content for all playable races, with DTF uniforms.
  • 'Citizen' class ship art.
  • CG variants for each of the sex scene options.

Codex Entries:

  • Trait descriptions.

Known Issues:

  • GUI has been designed with a target resolution of 1920x1080. Other resolution options have been added but have not been playtested and may be non-optimal.
  • XP and other rewards are not currently rewarded during the introduction sequence events.
  • Some trait effects have not been fully implemented.
  • This is in general still a very early version of the game and mechanics, GUI, etc are still extremely in progress. All comments and bug reports are welcome at the project Patreon or Discord.
