For this month's Baritone lesson we are going to learn how to play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" but not just any style, not a pop strumming version like Iz, we are doing a full blown instrumental version where we play the chords and the melody at the same time, arranged by yours truly. To give it a little more jazz I also jazzed it up... with jazz chords haha. The song has a part A and B and the song plays through as AABA with each section being 8 measures and at the very end there is a 2 measure coda to finish the song. The actually song is not very difficult to play, there may be some chord shapes that you haven't seen yet, but the rhythm is slow and open and you if you can play a 1/4er notes you will have no problem playing this song. Take it slow and you will have an instrumental piece that sounds amazing and is one of the most requested songs that you will ever get when you play the ukulele.

Will Improve

  • Jazz chords
  • #9
  • Augmented
  • Ma7
  • 7
  • Dim
  • Dim7
  • Melody in G
  • Harmonizing melody in G
  • Playing slower BPM songs
