Today we are going to learn how to harmonize riffs, we are using riffs but you can also apply these concepts to licks and melodies as well. We will start off with a basic 4 bar lick in the key of C major. After that we will harmonize the lick with 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and octaves. You can hear these ideas in a lot of guitar in the 80s, listen to Iron Maiden for example and you will hear great examples of lovely guitar lines that are being harmonized.

The base lick has been looped as well in a .wav file you can download so that way you can practice all the different licks against it and hear it harmony, developing your timing and your ear as well.
