Classic song with a lovely minor blues 12 bar solo to kick the song off and today we are going to learn how to play it note fore note. This is a minor blues, which is actually quite different in feel and vibe, especially in the turn around, and BB navigates it like a master. There are cool chromatic walk ups, half bends and full bends. This is a great solo to study, steal some licks and develop your minor blues soloing skills. I would strongly suggest playing along with the actual track as this solo is note for note and it will improve your timing dramatically, not only that you can pay attention to the small details of BB's playing, the way he hits some notes harder than others, some softer, some legato and some staccato. This little details are called dynamics and these are things that you can't get from just looking at tabs or sheet music, you have to play with the track to get them, but it is worth it as these tiny details really improve your playing.

One thing to keep in mind is that the lowest note in this solo is a B note, so if you have a high G it will sound different when you play along, but still good. You can do a couple of things, you can move it up to C minor, meaning move every single note up a fret and playing the open C string instead of the B, or you can move up to C minor then tune down a half step, so you are still playing in B Minor.

Will improve

  • Soloing with the B minor pentatonic
  • Chromatic notes
  • Different types of bends
  • Playing multiple pentatonic shapes
