Goose.... not Goose. Man...

Hi friends, we are doing a fun one today, I am going to be breaking down how to play "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis on the Ukulele for you and boy this one was a lot of fun to play. I little tricky to sing and not get a little big joking and over exaggerated, but hey you can really let it go and belt it out if you want, plus it is just a good song, so if you wanted to you could also play a more conservative version of it that would sound excellent.

The song isn't a blues song, but it clearly has a blues influence as it has a classic boogie woogie old time shuffle that was typical of the guitar players from Jerry's native state of Mississippi. He applies these boogie woogies to more typical basic pop and major chords to create a fun classic that is both fun to play on the Ukulele and a lot of fun to get up and dance too!

When this song came out in the 50s it was very controversial for its sound and many parents did not want that rock'n'roll in their house, so much show that Jerry actually wrestled the ethics of the musical entirely, and didn't think he should be playing it but couldn't help it because of the draw it had on him. The single sold 1,000,000 copies in its first 10 days after its release... in 1955!!!! There were only 165,000,000 people then, meaning 1/165 Americans had a copy in the first 10 days! That is mind blowing.

The song is much older, but it's great and a theme song of a 1980s movie nevertheless - The Hippy Hippy Shake from the Cocktail movie (also gives you more Tom Cruise :-))
