Today we are going to learn how to do some Ragtime fingerpicking on the Ukulele. This style is based on popular old time piano music and is geared towards beginner players in this style, maybe not absolute true beginners on the ukulele, but if you are early on in your journey you will still be able to benefit from this lesson very much so.

We will do two progressions, the first one is a two chord idea, C and G, geared towards beginners to help you with the alternating bass, adding melody notes, syncopation, non-chord tones and adding movement to the melody as well. Even with its alternating bass movement at its core the lessons is a beginner ukulele tutorial.

The second progression will be quite a bite more complicated as we add a chormatic movement moving from the G to Gmaj7 to G7 to G6, we will also take the G shape and move it up the neck to make a C chord and look at come complicated extended arpeggios with the Cmaj7 and the D7 being the primary focus of the exercise.

Great video, ragtime is an almost forgotten genre of music that is so untwined in early acoustic blues, or at least that is my pithy opinion.

I am really trying to get better at it on piano so I can try and really take my ukulele ragtime skills to the next level.
