Similar to when Jamie joined the show, K-9 was a late addition to the cast, so some stories had already been written and planned before it was decided he should join the cast. The exterior shots in this story was the same location they used for ‘Pyramids of Mars’. This was also Robert Holmes’ last credit as script editor before he’d hand the role over to Anthony Read.

Though he did keep writing for the show up to his death, which caused some huge issues that we'll get to in good time.

Thanks for another great reaction. The one thing that stands out for me about this story is that all the characters, barring Adam, are batsh*t crazy in some way. Also, the plot is so weird & I'm still not sure if I completely understand it, even after reading up about it. Love your comment of she skull is possessing Thea with worm things, and no, that's not a crazy sentence for this story! Love the creepy vibe of it. Also notable for K-9 not really featuring. I think sometimes the terrain they filmed these stories made it prohibitive for the K-9 prop to take much of a part. It was notorious for stopping and breaking down sadly. Tom Baker used to get a little frustrated with it & I'm sure I've seen one picture where he wraps his scarf around it and takes it for a drag around the studio. Mean old Doctor lol! See you next time!

Louise Jameson suffered a horrible mistake by the BBC hairstylist right before this story was filmed, with a whole six inches of her hair getting accidentally cut off, which is the reason for Leela's unusually done-up hair.

Daphne Heard - Delia Phyllis Daphne Heard (21 August 1904 – 22 June 1983) - here playing Old Martha Tyler - was another of our brilliant character actresses and a was a member of the teaching staff at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.. She appeared numerously in movies and TV series. But was perhaps best known in her later years as Richard DeVere's elderly mother Mrs. Polouvicka in To the Manor Born. Naturally enough, she also appeared as 'Third Witch' in the - ahem - Scottish play back in the late 60s. Martha: "Oh, don't 'ee mind him, my lovelies. Sooner or later he'll be sorry. Later or sooner, he'll regret. Well, I'll be going now, Professor. You can tell Doctor Fendelman I'll come back when t' others is gone. I don't hold with the likes of 'ee. There in't a dog born that as attack me, boy. They got more sense than most people!"

I love this story soooo much! (Also, fun fact, Wanda Ventham -- who plays Thea -- is Benedict Cumberbatch's mother) <3

This is my favorite 4th Doctor story. I saw it when I was 12 or 13 in 1984 on PBS and was hooked on the show every since

One of the best cliffhangers that glowing skull. I really like this story.
