This is another episode that gets a bad rap, with a lot of people accusing the whole "Space Abraham Lincoln" thing as being just more of Season 3's silliness. Which ignores that the characters themselves find the idea just as weird as the audience and don't believe it could really be him for a second, and at most Kirk is just playing along with what might be a powerful alien who could wipe them out. It's also very nice to see the show acknowledge that someone from the 19th century, even if they were as enlightened as Lincoln about racial issues, would still have a hard time not speaking in a way that would sound offensive to modern ears, and Uhura's taking it in stride and shaking his hand is a very sweet moment. If anything, Kahless is the big sign of Season 3 silliness here, with most of his lines being a bad imitation of Surak, and the one time he actually gets to speak as himself, he sounds like a cartoon western henchman with the line "It's one of them peace lovers, colonel."

If anything does get pushed back due to your surgery, that won’t be a problem. Like you say, hopefully not, but if it happens, it happens. As to the episode. I share the sentiment of if I had a hundred guesses as to who or what could appear, Abraham Lincoln would not have been one of them. Your reaction to that sums it up succinctly. In all fairness, as I see Ryan pointed out, the crew themselves are just as baffled as the viewer is, thus helping it not to seem too bizarre. Still, I do applaud your skepticism, Jess, in having a hard time believing that Honest Abe is the genuine article and that you were pondering that he may not be so honest in this particular instance. Like you said, an interesting enough concept, if a touch repetitive. Other highlights of the reaction were you’re sticking up for Bones, and I'm in complete agreement with you on loving seeing Sulu in the captain’s chair, tragically brief though it is; that is a damn fine sight to behold. I'm also with you in that turning into a big rock upon making a big point in an argument thus denying anyone the chance to respond does sound like a most agreeable idea. I had a similar reaction to what you had during the scene with Lincoln and Uhura. Likewise, I had the same reaction as you did upon seeing the shall we say questionable make-up. Brings me to your thanks at the end and let me simply say that it fucking sucks that you are getting accused of being performative and are not actually uncomfortable upon seeing something like the Classic Who story that has given you the trouble that it has. I do appreciate, Jess, your thanks. It means a lot to hear you say that the kindness that I and others have shown to you has been most appreciated. You are most welcome for the kindness, Jess.

After Walter Koenig was one of the few cast members who never got to sit in the chair, he got to do it on Babylon 5, and his smugness at it is something to behold (and the crew reportedly had a hell of a time getting him out of it after filming).

Chekov - thinks in wonderment! - "I am in the Keptin's chair - LOOK AT ME! Спасибо! Спасибо! - Cut? What do mean cut? But . . . I just got here! You can't mean it! Let go of my arm!"

I'm so sorry that people are accusing you of being "performative." What a load of bullshit. Just because they don't have the empathy to recognize when something isn't right doesn't mean no one else does! Just came here to say this.
