If the first episode was the show's demonstration of how well it could translate the game's story, this one is all about how it can portray the actual gameplay. And the answer turns out to be pretty darn well. The museum actually comes into the game a bit later, but it's fully understandable why it's moved here, as the location from the game at this point is much less visually striking and would probably not fit easily into a single episode. And major kudos to the people playing the Clickers, who perfectly copy the game's animation while dealing with those prosthetics.

Also the "cursed french kiss" was something else... It wasn´t as graphic, but it was fucking gross! Yikes!

Two episodes in and this show is going well so far. I’m getting a sense of this will be a show you really love, Jess. And, actually, that has me more excited than seeing the show itself. Following my seeing this episode, my immediate statement after was, “I think Jess is REALLY going to love this show and I am here for it.” As I said on youtube, I appreciate the sentiment and compliment you imparted at the beginning of the video. Related to that, I had a laugh how you had a laugh about how it was funny that a butterfly popped up after you called us iconic, beautiful butterflies. You said that, and my response was, “That is an amusing coincidence.” I found the opening flashback intriguing. I find that if I were in Joel and/or Tess’s place, I'd have been driven up a wall from having to put up with Ellie’s smartassery. I'd have probably said at one point, “Jesus, this is an aggravating Laurel and Hardy routine we got here. I open my mouth, and you respond by deciding to be smart.” That moment when Ellie jokingly acts like she’s infected, I'd have pointed a gun at her, saying, “Rethink that move, kid.” I did have a good laugh when Tess says to Ellie, “You try climbing ten fuckin' floors with our knees. See how ya feel.” I added, “Yeah, well, I'm only in my early thirties, and I've had a bum knee for about a decade now. Also, my high school has four stories, and those stairs were fucking murder, freshman year especially.” The whole episode makes me think it’s probably a good thing that I don’t have kids. I’d say you’re probably correct on Joel in that when his daughter was killed any hope he may have had was gone with the wind, and he’s had to be very survivalist hence. His interactions with Ellie thus far are likely influenced by that, and his frostiness is probably exacerbated by the fact that Ellie’s older than his daughter ever was, presumably. Likewise, you can tell Tess has seen and done shit, and is relatively open and self-aware about it. Yeah, lots of tell, rather than show storytelling in this show, and the actors are selling it very well. I couldn’t speak to the logistics of the fungi. My mom is a retired science teacher, but I don’t recall her ever really studying fungi much. Though I'm sure she’d know people who could speak more in-depth about it or know people who know people who could. One thing for sure, those mouth-tendrils or whatever the fuck they are, are most unsettling. The museum sequence was tense. I’m with you on wanting Ellie to listen to the grown-ups when they’re telling her to be silent. I chimed in, “Which part of “From this point forward, we are silent” is giving you trouble exactly?” Those, uh, clickers I believe they were called were quite terrifying. They looked like deadites meets the creature from This Island Earth. Concerning the holy fuckballs ending with Tess, full disclosure, I knew that Tess was going to die. Reason being, within the last week, youtube plopped a video with a title of something to the effect of “Tess death. The Last of Us” in my recommended videos. Which means that this show follows Arcane, Squid Game, and Wednesday in that, the only videos related to them that I've clicked on are your reactions, and youtube then floods my recommendations with videos galore. Normally I've been able to avoid the spoilers, but this time I was unsuccessful, leading me to yell, “Christ! For five minutes, could the internet kindly try NOT to spoil the shows that I'm watching Jess react to? FOR FIVE MINUTES?!” Now, there was the question of when and how Tess would die, and I wasn’t expecting it to happen in this episode. So, it was still a shock. I would agree with you that it’s a much more emotional moment when we learn Tess is infected, her plea to Joel, and her committing to her sacrifice, than it was in the actual death. Your reaction to Tess in the last part of the episode was perhaps the emotional high point of the reaction. A great reaction. Like I said, I get a feeling this will be a show that you really love, and I'm looking forward to continuing to share it with you, Jess.

The show's Joel is actually a good deal less cold and brutal than in the game. For starters, Joel and Tess are actually the ones who kill Robert, and in a quite unnecessarily painful way. I'd guess that without the automatic connection that comes from you actually controlling what Joel does, something like that would just be even more of a barrier to people getting attached to him.

The museum is in the same section in the game. You might be thinking of the Hotel?

Those god damn Clickers. eugh... One thing I think they have made more terrifying from the game is the strands that come out of their mouths and other orifices that can connect to those from miles away, which is horrifying to think of. I did like seeing Joel have to switch his pistol ammo to explosive rounds. Clickers are indeed tougher to take down in the game, and they have done that here too. The suspense and first time you hear the noise from them is petrifying. No matter how many times you face them in the game, they are dreadful things to get around or take down. Both ingame and here I feel is a shame that Tess has to be taken out of the story so quickly. She has a good dynamic with both Joel and Ellie. I would have liked more from her, but this is the story about Joel and his adopted daughter, and somehow trying to overcome what happened in the past, to make things right and save the world.

I'm with you on wishing that we could have gotten more of Tess. To your point the story is about Joel and Ellie and the bond that formed between them. Still, would have been nice to have a bit more time with Tess. That scene of Joel switching the ammo was tense.
