I’ve kept hearing good word of mouth for this movie for about twenty years. Now finally seeing it, it lives up to its reputation. Loved the cast for this. The two that stood out the most to me were Suzanne Pleshette as Yubaba and Zeniba, and David Ogden Stiers, who’s one of my top ten favorite actors, as Kamaji. The idea that you bring up that Yubaba/Zeniba and Kamaji might resemble Chihiro’s actual grandparents in some way, I would agree and say that the idea is plausible. I was aware that No-Face was a major influence on Darth Nihilus. Having now seen this film, that influence becomes much more apparent. I’m with you and Chihiro in that I too would be unwilling to go exploring with my parents in tunnels that are creepy and what appears to be a completely abandoned place. I ‘d probably say stuff like, “What part of any of this makes you think this is even remotely close to being a good idea.” Admittedly, I probably wouldn’t have to worry as my dad was a lot more of a cautious man than Chihiro’s dad. My mom is the same way. Also, when it comes to the food, that would be one of the very rare occasions where I would be so happy that I’m as picky of an eater that I am. I do like how the film is somewhat vague on if the events were real or not, and one could interpret it either way. As to your statement that you’re toying with the idea of doing away with the movie series reactions, I’ll be frank and say that I’m not particularly fond of that idea. But, if as you say the interest is no longer that great and you feel that doing away with the movie series reactions is the best course of action for you to take, then I won’t protest. This was a fun, enjoyable, and very sweet film to share with you, Jess. Thanks.

So this was interesting. I'd never seen Spirited Away but was aware of its reputation and it's on a long list of movies I thought I'd watch one day. So I was a little surprised that I didn't love it. I didn't hate it and there were things I did like but it was a little too random. The plot felt like it was just one thing after another with no real connection. Towards the end we got more of a story with characters having things they want and goals to accomplish but by that stage it was a little late. I liked Sen/Chihiro but I wasn't as attached to her as I could have been I think. I dunno it may improve on a re-watch - but I can see me not finding time (so many other movies I've not seen) On ditching movie series - I'm with you on that. Only because once you're committed to a series, if I'm not into it then it can be a few months before the next one. And there have been a couple of series like that for me. Maybe you could replace it with a movie you pick? Or you pick from a short list from a poll? Or maybe you pick a short list and we vote on the movie? Based on some comments you've made in the past and the answer to the "feel good movies" question in the monthly chat, I feel like there are some types of movies that never quite make it to the top of poll but which you would like, and which would probably still get the views if they did. I get it - you need to have movie reactions that a lot of people would watch otherwise you might as well watch them on your own.

This was so fun! Since I watched the Harry Potter movies with your reaction last week, it's almost boring to think about watching movies WITHOUT your reaction to it... I'm going through all the past movie reactions now :)
