May Donation (Patreon)

This month's donation is to the World Resources Institute ($50) and also the American Civil Liberties Union ($50).

Thank you everyone for supporting me and allowing me to make these donations. I know I've said that I donate specifically to environmental causes, but I occasionally slip in other types of organizations like World Central Kitchen and the ACLU. Civil rights and keeping people fed are also important and I'm not going to make myself decide which of these causes is more important, because they all deserve some amount of attention.

I haven't been mentioning donations in my videos as much recently because the publicity makes me uncomfortable to some extent. I don't want people to think I'm trying to convince them of how good I am. A lot of why I donate is because of guilt and laziness. I feel like I should be doing more important things and helping more people, but instead of putting myself physically into causes, I find it easier to make money by other means and give a little to the people who are actually working on the issues. It feels like the actual least I can do without doing nothing.

I'm not sure exactly what this says about me, but donating actually makes me feel a little ashamed and phony, so I'm glad people don't give me a hard time very often. Anyway, I'm gonna keep doing it. Thanks again.
