PROGRESS REPORT

FrougeDev is just continuing work as usual on the new editor, cutscene editor, and so on!

Triangulate, being done with about 90% of the art for the Electric Level, is now working on some polish stuff as well as future things for the Earth/The End levels, and cutscenes with me too!

I've been doing odds and ends all over the game, including two of the things below!

Rtil is currently focusing on Internal Interrogation for the next month or so, then he'll be doing double duty between this and II!

Fuyarinpa is currently focusing on Reclaim Reality, but within the next month or two he should be back on doing music for the Electric Level!

Stenzo K. is done with SFX for now as he's working on another project of his own, but when we get to the Electric Level, he'll be able to start up SFX again!

JAPANESE TRANSLATION

We've been in talks with a few Japanese translators over the last month or two, and after running a few tests with them, we've settled on someone; they don't have a specific "NSFW alias" yet, though.

Starting with v0.18 however, they'll be translating parts of the game, starting off with the more general stuff like powerups, menus, so on, then moving onto databanks, and finally cutscenes and the like.

If this is received well, we might be doing the same throughout the game's progress with other languages, possibly doing a poll to see which language we'd begin incorporating next, etc.

Eventually, we'd like to have the game, at a minimum, in "EFIGS" + JPN languages, meaning English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish, the industry standard for the 5 most common languages games are translated to, plus Japanese, of course.

TIDBITS OF LORE

I haven't done a lore post in a long while, so I figured I'd add a few random bits of trivia in here, real short blurbs and stuff. I really wish I could share some of the really neat storyline elements we have planned, but to give those away would kind of spoil the surprise!

 • The WORM facility that Talia is in isn't the "main" WORM facility; this is because there is no "main facility". Across the globe, there's roughly ten thousand or so of the facilities that Talia's traversing.
 • Each of these facilities can range from the size of a large, single building, to the size of a large county (not country).
 • The facility that Talia is in is the size of a small suburbian town.

-------------------------------

 • The Ice Boss's speech/thoughts aren't actually "broken" like it's displayed in the demo. Something else is causing that effect.
 • Rebels defecting to the WORM or vice-versa isn't an uncommon occurence, nor are double or even triple agents. The rebels aren't universally the "force of good", and the WORM aren't universally the "force of evil".
 • Contrary to the WORM's outlawing of sex between its members, the Rebels have sex like crazy, partially as a means to increase their numbers. However, sex is mainly discouraged if it's just for pleasure, and is encouraged mainly for causing pregnancy.

-------------------------------

 • Technology in the year 3000 has advanced far enough that the Rebels are not starving; food replication devices exist at a basic enough level that they're not even close to running out of food or water.
 • However, the devices work by feeding them materials, and then the machine works by disassembling the material into its base forms, saving those base forms up, and when it has enough, reconstructing it into the desired food. As you can imagine, this results in pretty poor tasting, boring food, but it gets them by.
 • The save pads in the game work on a similar principle to reconstruct human bodies as a whole.
 • The logical result of both devices is that the resources of the planet are being rapidly drained. There's only three reasons that the planet hasn't been completely drained of resources; first, just solid management of resources in general with these devices helps quite a bit, as nothing is wasted, and anything not used is saved for later production.
 • Second, supplies gathered from nearby asteroids and/or interference from alien races like the Celodst bringing supplies to the planet has refueled and staved off the planet's resources greatly.
 • Third, and the most morbid; dead bodies are everywhere due to the constant fighting. So when you die and are respawned on a Save Pad, someone else's body was likely broken down and used to recreate you, and likewise, your dead body was likely used to recreate someone else that just died. (This is why you don't see piles of dead bodies lying around.)
 • I'm not going to go any farther than this, but if you haven't gotten the implication by now, the Save Pads are really important in this game's plot. There's a lot more going on with them that I'm not noting here, and likely never will until the game's complete and people have played through it, of course.

-------------------------------

 • I've brought this up in a few livestreams before, but for those who didn't catch them; every game I work on, the title for the game has a triple meaning.
 • The first meaning is the obvious meaning, generally something you're introduced to at the start of the game; in this case, Talia is looking for the Future Fragments.
 • The second meaning is usually a silly one; in this case, she's looking for the Future Fragments suit, and what makes this suit up are fragments of a suit from the future.
 • The third meaning is the true meaning of the game's title, and usually outright the actual ending to the game or the major "reveal" of the game. This, obviously, I can't reveal, but it's present in Future Fragments too, so have fun speculating!

FIRE SHOT EFFECT

We talked about this a bit in previous updates, but this is a WIP of the Fire Shot you'll get from the Fire Boss; when hitting an enemy or a wall/obstacle, it explodes, dealing damage in an area around it, setting any enemies on fire as well in that same area of effect, causing damage over time.

(The final effect will be larger, around 1-2 tiles from the point of impact, etc.)

====================

Thanks so much for your support; we're aiming to give you nothing less than the best game we can do!

The next demo, v017a, will be out March 31st, and will have a number of improvements :)

(As an extra note too, if you wanted to check out the other two games of mine (especially if you're a yuri or a futa fan, respectively, since we're not doing either of those in this game), they're at http://www.patreon.com/reclaimreality and http://www.patreon.com/hentaiwriter.)

Hmm, did you already discuss what would be the theme of the earth level, or is that still a secret? :) For some reason I think the third future fragments meaning refers to what stays behind after Talia, when you respawn at a save point...

FutureFragments

Oh, yeah, I mentioned it in a few posts a long while back :P The Earth level is basically in a big jungle, with practically no technology; it was an area that the WORM considered to be too difficult to traverse. Part of that's due to the pollutants from the Electric Area warping the environment, so the day/night cycle rapidly changes, which affects the enemies and the environment itself. As far as the third meaning, I gotta say you're not close :P I'm pretty happy, to be honest, that no one's even come close to figuring out some of the big plot twists in the game, while simultaneously putting them right in the player's face, in plain sight, haha.

Ok, I look forward to see what you can do with a jungle :) Well, it was worth a shot, taking a guess. Maybe when I'll play the game from the start to finish I'll figure it out before a reveal. Hard to do that I don't read every single material and piece of lore you write either in game or outside :D

FutureFragments

Oh, I don't expect you to read all of it of course, there's a good deal of this stuff that is only mentioned off-hand in game or implied :P the important stuff will be the most obvious stuff presented in game, of course.

Will the voice acting be out in the next demo?

Anonymous

Since I am a bit out of the loop coming back to the game after a few months. What is the progress looking like, the last demo I have (before downloading the 0.17 yesterday) was 0.12. I know you were going for a mission for each element essentially so I was wondering what all had been accomplished in regards to each area. Sorry if I seem nosy or demanding, just trying to catch up haha.

FutureFragments

As far as each new area, we're doing them as we come across them generally. So for Electric right now we've got all the enemies done + their sex animations (you can see them if you go through previous posts), the basic tileset, all the gimmicks planned out, the traps, etc. Programming for the level is being done now, but we're also adding in the cutscene editor and improved editor, as well as a few other things, so this should be the last "break between big demos monthly" while all that gets added in. After that though, there's no art content done for the Earth level or The End, and no programming for either, either. For writing though, I've got the entire game's plot done, the events that'll happen in each level, done, so on.

FutureFragments

As you'll see in tomorrow's post, unfortunately not (the voice actor didn't get their work done in time, so we're unable to include it in this demo). We do have a small set of surprises coming though in return, and come the Electric Demo the voice acting should be back in full force (I made it real clear to them we needed it on time no matter what)

FutureFragments

Not sure what you mean about a "fire mission" :P The Fire Level is publicly available at Newgrounds at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/683361

Haha yeah I realized that after I made the comment already. My bad. :P

Am I missing something? In which demo do we see the cutscene with Faye? And which demos have the actual cutscenes? Sorry for not knowing

FutureFragments

The Fire Level demo on Newgrounds at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/683361 has the Faye cutscene for that level; every level will have a Faye cutscene (we have them done for the Fire and Ice and Electric levels), we just need to implement them in the game. Right now the priority for development is to get entire levels mostly done though, and then sweep back and add in gameplay features that we're adding as we go along in retrospect once we've completed the core levels so as to get the game out faster instead of adjusting each previous level's code with each new feature as we make adjustments.
