If anyone is wondering why we dropped nearly $300 in pledges, it's because there were 6 people that were bots at the $50 level, unfortunately.

We're still working away; be ready for a neat announcement tomorrow! (Not gonna be anything groundbreaking, just more info on what we're working on for the foreseeable future etc.)

I know this is probably a dumb question, but why would some one use a bot?

Anonymous

And if they are giving you money, why drop them?

Anonymous

I'm also curious what these bots were doing, but I'd guess they were trying to get demos etc. Also Bob I doubt they were giving money.

You have more trouble with Patreons than anyone I know.

It would make sense if they were trying to grab demos, then they could put on one of those sites that makes you do all those surveys and what not. somehow they make $$ doing that.

Jeez, six bots? How terrible. :(

FutureFragments

Actually, you'd be surprised; there are people that have it way worse than us, like some Patreon accounts I've heard of getting slammed with over $10,000,000 in fake pledges, and since all of our content is sent solely through PMs and emails (and the really high up content like editors being unique to each person), the piracy for us isn't nearly as bad as a lot of other Patreon accounts.

FutureFragments

They aren't giving money, that's why they're bots; you can pledge to someone on Patreon and not pay a dime, but still access their activity feed the whole time you're "pledged", which is what many of the bots on Patreon do; they access all the pictures/movies/music/videos that people post to their activity feed, then post them online.

FutureFragments

Pretty much, but I don't send out anything until money clears and even then I only send it through email and never post it to the activity feed, so :P

I mean, it's not that bad in the grand scope of things, there are people who have it far worse, with the way we give out content we've got it pretty good actually; it's just that since this is all three of our incomes, trying to balance out income for the month is basically an assumption, so when you plan for having $300 more than you actually get, it throws a wrench in things when every cent counts for your livelyhood :P
