I am here for the tangents 👏😂 Agreed that people don’t take time enough to listen to music, especially when we all have the attention span of a goldfish. The experience of just sitting there and taking in all the layers of the music is underrated. Also lmao re: playing the triangle like you’re on the farm haha

The song is about ordinary lives being totally destroyed during a painful economic transition in China (main lyric line: living the same way for 30 years, until the great building collapsed), and the song is extremely impactful in China. Omnipotent youth hotel is arguably the best band in China. Their only 2 albums are 10 years apart and both are amazing. Also the instrument is indeed cello (including the part that sounds like saxophone).
