For some weird reason, in the most recent patch update, an item that was no previously able to be used in battlegrounds now works. You may think "this has probably always worked", but no, it was my dearest wish to use a root vegetable in a battleground situation and I did try various ways in previous patches to smuggle this item in without any success. Yes, this is how Blizzard spend their time, tinkering with the pvp compatibility of random novelty items from four expansions ago.

The item is the Turnip Punching Bag:

This is available from completing quests in the Valley Of The Four Winds. It is very common for players to complete part of this quest chain and miss out on this item, causing much turnip-based anguish, so I'd advise questing through the zone till you collect the item at one sitting. An excellent detailed explanation of how to acquire the blessed turnip is explained here:

Now, stupid as all this sounds, the item is genuinely and without exaggeration ludicrously  over-powered, and when used by a skilled team it should virtually guarantee a win. The reason is that the item is effectively a target dummy and can be attacked in the starting area or during quiet periods while defending. This allows players to build up resources for subsequent attacks against players and do game-breaking damage.

For example, warriors can build up rage, frost mages can build up icicles Perhaps the best example is the warlock whose "inevitable demise" trait can be stacked to 50, ensuring they can virtually one-shot any enemy player with a decent ilvl and multiple traits. There are many, many creative uses of your turnip which I will leave to your imagination.

Shadowlands Update: This can be used by all classes to keep you in combat when stalked by a rogue, making sap impossible.
