Content

Things are going slow and steady on our end here with content creation for Atlas Altera, but I thought I should give a couple of highlights anyway.

In case you didn't catch it, I experimented with creating a new style of Youtube video this month, clocking in at around six minutes in length. I like how it turned out and I think I'll be doing more, balancing educational content and Altera lore highlights.

Another new highlight from this month is that we gained five new supporters on Patreon. It's always great to be reminded that other people care about this project, so this new surge in support is much appreciated.

And if you haven't tried it out yet, we've managed to make a simplified version of the Altera map into an online Risk map on Warzone. Play it with your friends, or better yet, come join us for a game on Discord!

Finally, I'll be headed to Clayoquot Sound to do a kayak camping trip for a week, and then there will be a few more trips and visits for the rest of August, so expect less activity from me than usual on all project wavelengths.

Atlas Altera's Take on All World Maps Are Wrong

All world maps LIE, but there's an unexpected reason for why they're all wrong. -- Then again, what matters is what a map's lies tell us to think. The maps of Atlas Altera are inspired by this simple but overlooked issue. The thinking goes like this: if we're going to tell stories about ourselves, wouldn't you rather have a more colourful backdrop? Atlas Altera is a creative exercise that repaints the world while going hardcore on real geography, anthropology, linguistics, and history.
