We’ve gone further than I ever could have guessed. Right into another dimension— even though it’s IMPOSSIBLE. What a treat to see a different version of our world where there’s clearly something sinister (and cyber) at work.

I love this episode unreservedly. I understand Ryan's complaints, but I think it works for Classic Who fans as a dramatic irony build plus the excitement of the Cybermen returning, while NuWho fans weren't really sure *what* they were getting. It's a great tee-up for the next episode and one thing RTD was/is very good at is ending an episode in exactly the right place for maximum reaction--there's frustration but it's absolutely in good humor - just as you said in the video OF COURSE that's where they were going to end the episode. Ultimately Doctor Who is just great good fun, and this two-parter is an amusement-park ride. That doesn't mean Doctor Who can't go deep or emotional, or address serious themes, but it is entertainment first and foremost. Like yes, dehumanization is awful and we are being fed unfiltered information every day and receiving it uncritically because it's a firehose and OH NO A MEGALOMANIAC IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER BUILT THE DUMBEST POSSIBLE ROBOT BODIES FOR HUMAN BRAINS OF ALL TIME! CAN THE DOCTOR DEFEAT HIM? MICKEY IS RICKY AND ROSE IS A DOG! LET'S GO!

This parallel world will come into play in the future so keep this episode in the back of your head. It will be important later. Yes...the Cybermen. One of the two most well known villains of the Dr. Who universe. (The other of course being the Daleks.) This episode is kind of interesting as it portrays the Cybermen as being 'created' on Earth. I don't remember if that was actually discussed in these episodes or not. The Cybermen are a race of beings from another world (at least in classic Who) whom the Doctor has encountered several times before. You should check out pictures of what they looked like in the classic era. The design/costume department has come a LONG way since! 🤣🤣🤣
