Parkour wasn't well known outside Europe at the time, so this was a lot of people's first look at it. And the movie makes the wise choice to barely even pretend to have a purpose beyond that. Just the bare minimum plot setup and then we just get to have fun seeing the founder of the sport show off the kind of stuff it involves. David Belle also starred in the American remake a decade later, which became especially notable as Paul Walker's final completed role before his death midway through production on Fast and Furious 7.

Yep if anyone ever wondered where all those parkour scenes in action movies came from this is one of the large parts of it. I think the movie does a good job having a fun time too and I like how much the action scenes are for the parkour and less on the usual fighting scenes. It is also aggressively dated to the 00s which I find charming

16(?) years ago I was invited to a movie night with a bunch of soldiers whom I worked with at a restaurant. They had an understandable "frat boy" vibe, not my normal crowd. They said "hell na" to the DVD I brought (this) because of subtitles. I convinced them to give it 10 minutes. They loved it and we had a fantastic time! This movie brings people together.

It’s K2’s haircut. As soon as you see that design you know what you’re in for
