A mockumentary centered around folk artists reuniting for a historic show. This was oddly more emotionally compelling than I expected. How'd they do that? Was it just the power of music? Plenty of laughs in this one as well! Thanks Paul Zawicki for this selection.

One neat tidbit I found just recently: The Main Street Singers are actually a direct parody of a specific '60s band called the New Christy Minstrels, who were notorious even at the time for being cringey dorks of the folk music scene. They're mostly forgotten now, except for the little trivia note of how you'd occasionally hear a much deeper, rougher voice that clearly didn't fit the lyrics at all, which belonged to P.F. Sloan, the guy who'd later go off on his own with the one hit wonder protest song Eve of Destruction.

The Folksmen actually predate this movie by quite a bit, as when Guest, McKean and Shearer toured for a while as Spinal Tap after that movie, they also created the Folksmen as their opening act. Of course, they got plenty of boos and it's impossible to tell how many people were just playing along with the joke, or legitimately didn't know they were the same actors.
