This was another fine episode of the Mandalorian, but halfway through season 3 and I can't ignore the fact that I feel like something is lacking any longer. I spend a few minutes at the end of this one expressing some of my overall thoughts for season 3 so far.

It really feels like they were counting entirely on Ahmed Best to carry this one. And it really was fantastic to see him get a big Star Wars hero moment after all the horrific bullying he took from the fans for decades. But as someone who’s usually content to just go with the story as I’m watching and only pick it apart later, it’s a bad sign when even I spent everything outside the flashback asking questions. Why are you still openly hanging out on this beach where monsters keep attacking? Why is Bo the only one who ever gets the idea to chase the bird in a ship if their jet packs can’t handle the chase? If this is the first anyone’s known where the bird’s nest is, how do you know how it will react to an attack? Why did the bird carry the kid around in its mouth for however long a day lasts on this planet, which we know included a trip to the nest because Bo followed it there?

Agreed! I didn't realize that was the actor who played Jar Jar until after I finished by edit, but that is really cool! Not so much narratively because... still an unnamed Jedi in my book (although they do say his name, I just thought it was a location at the time.) But REAL WORLD that's one of the best things. Also all the things you said are so valid. I didn't think of any of them until I watched John Campea's in show review. haha. They don't bother me too much though.

The character did exist before, as the host of a Legends of the Hidden Temple-esque game show on the Star Wars Youtube channel a couple years ago. Which I'd never heard of before this episode, but I've checked out a couple episodes and he's really fantastic at encouraging the kids and reacting to what they say, all while staying perfectly in character.

Honestly, the thought of some kid who loves that game show watching this episode of the mandolorian and losing his mind that *his* Jedi master is there makes me really happy.
