Do the arguments about trans rights sound familiar to you? They did to us, too. This month, we're talking through the stark parallels between the arguments against queer marriage and the arguments against trans health care.

Meh

Three years ago there was a ridiculous beat up about chest feeding in Australia. An LGBT group contracted the Australian Breastfeeding Association to develop materials specifically for LGBT communities. There was nonsense about "erasure" of breastfeeding. Of course, anyone paying attention noticed that it was a specific set of materials produced under a contract and the association continued to be the Australian Breastfeeding Association. Apparently, trans people being catered to, and the Breastfeeding Association being paid to do it, is erasing cis women https://www.smh.com.au/national/breastfeeding-association-defends-creation-of-chestfeeding-booklet-20210512-p57rbu.html

As a clumsy trans person, I’ll stand on any slippery slope!

I listened to this episode while literally packing up my house because I’m moving my family from TN to MN to escape the awful anti-LGBT legislation here. As the parent of a trans kid, it’s REALLY NOT THAT HARD to be supportive and affirming. I spent this past legislative session meeting with a bunch of Republican legislators in TN trying to convince them of mine & my kid’s humanity, and they absolutely had all the talking points outlined in this episode. We presented soooo much data (even charts & shit that didn’t require reading comprehension!) and they could not be convinced of any narrative than this ROGD bullshit. They flew in de-trans activist Chloe Cole to speak on the dangers of GAC but won’t listen to actual Tennesseans whose care they’re banning. It’s maddening. So, we’re taking our trans kid (and their sibling too lol) and getting the fuck out before things get any worse.

idea: the truth of high cortisol levels and the diet trend related to it!

Anyone else having trouble with how the last two main feed eps and now the bonus are all about hatred against LGBT people? It’s a major issue but I have skipped all of them because I don’t want to spend my free time hearing about how I’m hated… they can and should make the episodes they want to make but I’m hoping for a return to content about health & wellness misinformation.

So late on this episode but I remember a woman I worked with before gay marriage where a lesbian couple and gay couple married each other's non American spouse to allow them to be in the same country together. People find a way to be together and blocking them from marriage or care just hurts people not stops the activity. But that would be their point. Thank you for this podcast. These were stupid justifications then and now.

To me these episodes feel very much in concert with the usual debunking of health misinformation and fat phobic rhetoric, given that the queer community as a whole has and continues to suffer from lack of care and understanding from the medical system. The abhorrent disdain for fatness and queerness that comes from closed minded people permeates healthcare access, delivery, and research!

I work with infants. “Human milk” is absolutely happening. We have a handout from the CDC hanging on our fridge entitled “Human Milk Storage”

Next time you release a bonus episode from the vault, can it be this one? I think about it all the time and I think it'd be so effective to share with people who "love gay people" but "don't get the trans stuff"
