It's a 986 AD map depicting the unification of the Kingdom of Denmark by king Harald Bluetooth, and his subsequent conquests of Norway, southern Sweden, and the Baltic coast of Northern Europe. The territories decrease in saturation to represent the order in which they were incorporated into Bluetooth's Danish Kingdom.
